How to truly uncover lasting happiness can seem like a lofty or impossible goal. But somehow, Rupert Spira makes it seem not just possible, but as clear as glacier water. Iβve wanted him on the show for a long time now, and Iβm excited to share this incredible conversation. We dig into non-duality, the nature of time, the beauty of simple awareness, and what all the great spiritual traditions of the world were pointing to.
Rupert Spira is an English teacher of the “direct path”, a method of spiritual self-inquiry through talks and writing, and a notable English studio potter with work in public and private collections.
Spira was deeply interested in the nature of reality from an early age. By age 17 he was studying meditation and practicing a classic Indian method of spiritual inquiry called Advaita Vedanta. He has studied with Dr. Francis Roles, Shantananda Saraswati, the Shankaracharya in, and is steeped in the wisdom of thinkers and mystics such as P. D. Ouspensky, Jiddu Krishnamurti, Rumi, Sri Ramana Maharshi, Nisargadatta, and Robert Adams.
In 1997, Francis Lucille trained Rupert in the Direct Path teachings of Atmanada Krishna Menon and the Tantric approach of Kashmir Shaivism, which he had received from his teacher, Jean Klein.
Rupert regularly holds meetings and retreats worldwide, exploring non-dual teachings from a diverse array of sources: Advaita Vedanta, Kashmir Shaivism, Hinduism, Buddhism, mystical Christianity, Sufism, and Zen.
He is the author of several books, including “The Transparency of Things β Contemplating the Nature of Experience”, “The Ashes of Love”, “The Nature of Consciousness”, and “The Essence of Meditation”. His latest book is titled “A Meditation On I Am”.

Yes fill the heart with the world.
The now is all of your experiences in the now.
Wow! Once youβve had the experience this one talk encompasses everything you need to know ππΌππ and wrapped up perfectly to share with others.
A dreaming experiences of the world of awareness every thing outside of me changes selfishness to open a relationship between all recording's peers in one's mind memory of being.
The clearness is the unknown thing YES I think there for I am scared me that all the meditation and other elements of religion have been hiding from the population and other energies in this world listening to all things about lifetime and past timeline.
I think that the universe is not so huge now because the universe is listening to intention's voice mind vibrational energy that we all are in a relationship with all these things he is telling us about his sadness to enlightenment of attraction and repulsion of spirit.
"Time is what consciousness looks like when it is refracted through thought." β€
17:22 there doesn't have to be a continuous element for a sense of continuity to exist. The sense is subjective
Sooooo.. now what do we do once one has found happiness?? Honestly, this is an egotistical endeavor. Instead of searching for one's own selfish happiness. How about we talk about how to make this experience better for everyone. Can your truly feel fully happy if you knew your child was suffering? How about your neighbor? Somebody's got to face reality
Excellent Interview. If anyone knew this information the world would be paradise

Very interesting discussion, Thanks.
we are all aspects or manifestations of a single indivisible whole or reality,as simple as this.
A wonderful interview! Great appreciation to the host and our great teacher, Rupert Spira.
One of the One that I am…
I am loving it… 76 comments as I am writing this one. The Class song for the year I graduated from high school and it was, "we may never pass this way again". I am very sure that as of this present now I am very happy to be able to make the other one I know that I am still in the present now is the same as the other one I have been doing the same thing as I am still not able to get to know them to be able to get a chance for a new one for me to go through all of this but we are to be a part of it to be able to make sure that they are going to have been working with the same as the other people who have been doing some of the things that I have been going through a lot of this but I don't know what to do to get to a place that is going to make the other one I have been working with a friend that I have been going through the things that have been going on for the past 31 years and I will have to be able to be there for the past and a part of this group is always a great place that is the best for me to get to know the things that I have to be able to make the best choice for me and the other one I am very connected to the things that I am not able to be a part of the things that are really going on with the same thing to be able to make sure that they will have a good thing for the things that are not as I have been working with the ascension of the people who have been working on it now and we will forget about the things that are not going to be a good thing for me and the other one is going to have to be able to make sure that they will not be able to be a part of the people that I am very happy to find out that I have been doing some of the things that are really going on with me in the present now and it is not going to happen but I don't want it to be a good thing for the things I do to get to a place to be able to get a chance for the things that I have been going on now I am very sorry to be a part of it and it is going away from me to be able to be a part of the things that I can do that I have to go down to the things that are really going on now and I am not able to make it to work with the way that is the best for the things I am still waiting for a new one for the love that I am still in the present now I think it's good for the things that are the best for me.
What does he reference at 3.45
The summoning and application of will to concentrate attention to physical senses such that we can directly asses reality can only take us to the point where we become aware of the veil covering the face of God.
Great! Wonderful! Thank you very much, Rupert. Very good.
Thank you very much for such a beautiful exploration. Though one question I have if you can answer please. If meditation turning into monotonous activity, should you pursue?
Thanks π
What a pleasure to have such a cooperative, respectful and intelligent interviewer. He brings out the best of Mr. Spira for the listener.
This makes me want to become a guru π. If you have to learn new terms and gobeldegook then it's a cult.

Thank you so much! Years ago I was in a very bad way…. .very sad….felt lonley….no money….food……and I went through the City……so sad and full of dispair…..and suddenly I realized " wow! But I still exist!" I really felt it. I EXIST…..ALWAYS. without food…without happyness…..without thoughts and body. THAT was a big Relief. And I had to laugh. I EXIST! Hurra. And soon After that I got money and food from out of the blue. And this experience changed me deeply…..forever. what a blessing. And one morning with a Cup pf coffee in my hands…..I smiled again " indeed…..I EXIST with a coffee and without a coffee". Blessings to all of you!π₯°π₯°π₯°
How can consciousness be the ultimate unchanging ground of everything if it can be turned off by anesthesia?
Wonderful discussion ππ
Thanks a million for the opening words, you spoke for me as well. I'm glad I found this and look forward to all of it.
So does Rupert believe in the Covid scam and all the evil that comes with it, it's just that real spiritual warriors would call this out.
I believe that what makes Rupert Spira different from so many other teachers is exactly the fact that, because he "is in awareness", he explains it so well and so clearly. Always a pleasure to listen to him.
He should call that girl, and thank her for the lesson.
He is an irrational thief nothing more.
This is the old irrational thief, he is a big irrational thief, lucky irrationals!
Do they have the same glasses π?? π. Thx for the great talk! π
I experienced exactly the same thing when I was 20 and I was embarking on a life as a Potter. We remained as friends, but I was pretty devastated.
Great job.
Love this thank you
My thoughts are totally continuous. Other people's are not? I follow my life like threading a thread through a needle, it is disentangled and continuous and in and of itself a stream of consciousness very clear and separate from the world. I am objective. My perceptions are the same now as they always were, simply refined. I guess I was born that way! I don't know how other people can make sense of themselves or of reality if they have no objectivity. But, I guess that's why they don't. Yet my objectivity is not valued at all. Actually all the great objective people are disenfranchised in this world. That's why to do real investigative journalism you will not be paid but your life would be threatened and you may be censored. That's a great symbol of what we do with our own objectivity. Like people have a mind virus attacking their inner objectivity for some reason. I don't know, you tell me..? I don't have it. Even when i do lose perspective, I'm so objective I can observe myself lose perspective and take actions to recalibrate.
I was blessed to witness meeting my father for the first time, when he fell ill to dementia. I grew up with a father who was a product of the great depression, filled with anger and could not love me as a daughter growing up because of his life experiences. When he became ill, I swear I could see his soul through his clear eyes. I felt him while we would sit in silence. I am so grateful for his dementia. I would hope that with practice I can find that place within me, without the need of falling ill. Thank you to the teachers who are directing us to let go and just be. ππ»β€οΈ
Thank you for this great interview brother. I totally agree with the way you feel also.
I believe Rupert seems to manage sharing his experiences / becoming to the point one can see with clarity. Thank you.
Love youβ₯οΈ
The nature of time and yourself in oneness, are not different.
I agree with that. you feel what Rupert conveys and forms with words , he almost takes your hand and walks you through yourself to the True Self.
This was such an amazing interview. I have a question though. Rupert says, "time is what consciousness looks like when refracted through thought." But, what IS thought? Is it consciousness? Awareness? All of the above? I imagine it cannot be awareness, because though we are always in the now, aka ever-present, we are not always in awareness of it. I imagine, in those moments of "misalignment" (for lack of a better word), we are also not in consciousness, but we DO have thoughts, do we not?
