Thank you George for this Alert. I just got the Mile High (8 gal pro) a few months ago. I have been buying essence from them and they can not get my order right and take 5+ days to get the order to me and I'm in Phoenix Arizona just below them ;</ My last order they shorted me Triple Sec Essence – Top Shelf (50ml) and gave me 3x Spiced Bourbon instead of the Spiced Rum Essence – Liquor Quik (20ml). their quility control and costumer service SUCKS. At 67 years young I've seen it all and think His complaints are his fault and not others. ;<p
Thank you George!!
George, this is right. People don’t realize that even though the pipe to the thumper is only 3/4 of an inch, it’s height that matters most. Wouldn’t matter if it’s a 3/4 inch pipe or a 3 ft pipe. 3 ft height of water is your head. It takes a lot of suction to pull water up 3 ft, and each foot is even more. Ask someone to try sucking water from a bucket in a tube and they’ll understand how that will crush thinner walled copper stills. Cause as you know the suction gets even worse when you open it up to a larger vessel like the still itself. It’ll crush right up.
As a boiler operator its a given …not everyone is .thanks for the tip
George I have a question. I have heard of people rerunning their product after it comes out of the still . Should you rerun your product if you have a thump keg or is one run enough
So glad i watched this
I found this video a little too late. unfortunately it crushed my 10 gallon copper pot like a pop can and put 2 tiny pin holes in it. Is it possible to fix this and use it again?if so any tips or tricks?
In chemisrty, this is called "suck back" and happens especially when bubbling gasses through a liquid. It can happen that the liquid gets "sucked back" all the way to the boiler.
My question is how much sugar to use, let's say I am making apple or grape wine, let's say one pound of apples or one pound of grapes,is there a precise amount of sugar to one pound of grapes? The more sugar you put in the greater the alcohol content? And if so is too much sugar will the Alcohol content produced kill the yeast?so finally what is your educated opinion of the ratio of sugar to the weight of grapes or any other fruit to insure a reasonable alcohol content that insure complete fermentation of the yeast,,,thank you
Thumbs up great stuff! Cheers 😁🍻
love your videos,
Thanks for the tip George, I saw a guy put a vacuum on a Fastferementer one time and your right, it did collapse.
Think of it like canning a mason jar and the lid has that seal that sucks in and seals them.
Hey George, what causes the thumper to fill up? I've seen them fill up during a run and have to be dumped, and read a few forum posts about it without a good answer. Any ideas? Thanks:-)
thanks for doing the update George… that may save someone from doing something stupid.
Great point George Thx!
George thanks again for a great video series!!!
Well done George. You are a Legend. Sound advise.
Keep the great work going.
Not bad advice but I have left mine closed and all it does is suck air back through the condenser thereby pulling liquid from the thumper back to the still as it equalizes.
Thank You
Thanks George – a simple thing that could end up costing a lot of $$$ to replace the still.
George, Really the negative pressure from the cooling process should be normalised by sucking back through the cooling coil and should not be a problem. Although I have to say, I have seen a home made column still on YouTube and it had a ball valve on the top of the column before the condenser. That idea has no logical reasoning or practical function and can be dangerous. Michael
Yes I’ve collapsed a 30 gallon just draining the hot stuff, pls open system within a few seconds of turning off heat source, ideally at same time!
Have tools ready n in place!
