In the future we may witness creation of superhuman (strong) artificial intelligence. Through a cascade of self-improvements – an uncontrolled intelligence explosion – it may then turn to be orders of magnitude more capable than people in a broad array of tasks, and take over decision-making and control of the world.
In this episode I discuss three criteria which would need to be met in order for an uncontrolled intelligence explosion, each of which appears quite likely. In particular I discuss the likelihood that the strong AI will be friendly to humans.
I also “debunk” some sci-fi ideas which anthropomorphize AI.
I am a professor of economics specializing in economic growth theory.
