Seeing Through the Simulation and Cosmic Consciousness | Dr. Donald Hoffman

THIRD EYE DROPS with Michael Phillip

Cognitive scientist, Dr. Donald Hoffman returns to the mind meld!
Donald Hoffman is a professor of cognitive science at UC Irvine who is proposing something radical yet fully backed by scientific rigor —
First, you perceive zero percent of reality. You live in an evolutionarily convenient illusion akin to a computer desktop interface.
Second, what’s truly real underneath that illusion (and all of our scientific models) is a realm of consciousness populated by what Don calls “conscious agents.” The physical world emerges from that realm.
So, despite how the world appears, no matter what happens at the large hadron colder or what we find peering through the James Webb telescope; what all of it really is, at bottom, is consciousness expressing itself.

  1. At first his idea was interesting until you find out how wonbly it is to say space time is doomed. His evidence that spacetime is doomed is literally a scientist says it in a lecture. See, a scientist said it. That really is it. Saying you'll be the one to fall on the sword of credibility is rich when that method is how you become famous or gain popularity.

  2. I think people unfamiliar with the ancient philosophical trichotomy of materialism/dualism/idealism are more impressed with this guy than they ought to be. He brings some reserch (good or bad) to the table, but the idea that consciousness and not external existence is primary is old and widely discussed long before he was even born.

  3. their are actual scientists whove lost their minds trying to figure out quantum physics, if you understand the double slit experiment you understand that were being observed always and even can even go back in time and change results, shits deep. then you have cosmologists whove searched the deep cosmos and found computer ones zeros the same in modern day search engines.

  4. The way he talks about these levels of physics and how their flaws are artifacts of being interfaces to different levels or more or less complicated things jogged my mind into a new understanding of things that it didn't before this interview.

  5. I want to believe that his conclusions are valid but I've yet to hear of any convincing evidence, just postulations without proof. I do believe that he is on to something, but right now it sounds like intellectual gobbledygook. I'm really waiting for an explanation for us folks with an IQ of less than 160.

  6. I think he's wrong about the assumption that increased knowledge automatically means increased technology. Using his own language, I'll pose this question, "What technology could you design using the pixels of space-time that would enable you to get 'outside' space-time using those pixels to re-arrange the laws that govern space-time? If everything we have access to inside the headset is merely part of the headset, how could you possibly arrange pixels of the headset to manipulate the headset?"

  7. Anyone who delves into believing that Life is a game, simulated, is that of inner health issues. When we have become so overwhelmed with Trauma, we begin to lose our grip with what Reality is. It all begins to seem unreal, and we become depersonalized as well…but again, this is an inner sickness, and much Healing is needed, to come back, and understand what Life truly is again, before all the Severe Traumas came in.

  8. 1:22:00 Let's be honest, this is just another fancy way of saying we cease to exist. People don't always like to admit that they believe we slip into oblivion at death. It's uncomfortable. In my opinion though, the persona, the "headset", is the self. It doesn't matter how many meat suits the energy or consciousness puts on when it just forgets the last. The individual is incredibly precious. If you think otherwise, take any beloved person in your life and just replace them. It should be fine, it's the universal consciousness underneath that you really care about. Just say you think the universe is indifferent to us all and be done with it.

I feel we completely sidestepped the life vs death question. I wouldn't compare my deceased loved ones to a rock. Dying in an accident, by violence, or by substances isn't the same as running out of food. Either way, if your "interface" perceives someone's death… it's probably not a trick of the mind.

  9. Nooooooo the dimensions have names! These guys are using probability to calculate these shapes – they are time-based shapes where one of their axes is time. It changes based on when you look at it like a cross section of a cube! The 5th dimension is information, we know this, we are already reaching at it.

  10. 11:06 This body — with its 5+ senses, is a VR suit. The minimum limit of the detail of the simulation is 10^-33mm.

Within this environment, our bodies emulate an avatar; a representation of “us.” This avatar is (at least) one means of influencing our environment.

For all practical purposes, an avatar is almost powerless in a physical sense. But the avatar is also a POV data-gathering device, though imperfect and often fooled. Calibration procedures neglected and results misconstrued. Flawed; though better than no data.

Side note: when you’re playing a video game, the depiction of the avatar on the screen has literally no influence on its surroundings environment. This is a minor deviation from our lived experience, where the analogy breaks down.

Not in the conversation, but (according to my understanding) our egos are like firmware which keeps our bodies alive within the simulation during the absence of our “higher selves.” Imagine you want to play a video game. But you’ve played it before and you don’t want to play the opening sequence, the lower levels or the boring middle. You start a new character on a macro and jump in when you want; when it starts to get interesting.

Anyway… a philosophy isn’t useful because it’s true. It’s useful because it’s useful. Honestly — within the sim, what yardstick do you use to calculate what’s true?

  11. If he acknowledges that he experiences real reality through meditation like he said, from a scientific stand point why wouldn't you try to integrate what you find when you have the headset on with what you and others experience with it off?

  12. Like I’ve commented in a previous video of yours; I’ve been steadily binging your content. I have NOT been disappointed! This is my FAVORITE video of yours so far! If only all the “intellectuals” would TRY TO RELATE to the common man about what they are discovering or thinking; imagine THAT world!
I love the Hoff; I’ve seen him in numerous videos and one thing (of many!) that I greatly appreciate about him is: he doesn’t GIVE A CRAP if a channel has a million subscribers or just a tiny handful; he will accept their interview invites and generously give those creators as much time as as they want.
I’ve even seen him in interviews of completely incompetent (or maybe just novice interviewers) and he STAYS patient and tries his best to help the creator out during the interview.
This guy is a GREAT person and I admire him deeply.
Side note: I even emailed him with my completely pedantic questions ( I LOVE this stuff but I’m DEFINITELY NOT an expert!) and he actually took time to reply to me. Humble man..
    Great interview!!

  13. Aura is not a simulation. Aura is energy. Consciousness is energy. Astral projection is an out of body energetic experience. Energy coherent. As the source of energy consciousness performs Astral projection.

  14. So hear me out. I'M not a religious person, but could religion be a guideline to be able to pass through this plane of existence. If you take the root of many religions One could say its main goal is tell us to quiet our minds on the reality we wake up to and think of the "beyond" with prayer meditation not fixating on worldly things…just a thought
