3. This is a much more eloquent and specific way of putting what I was saying. Pinker represents a new kind of normative ideological enforcement against the left.

5. I don't understand where exactly people disagree with Pinkers position. I have read his book and it's pretty straight forwardly obvious stuff, he is stating the obvious fact that ON THE WHOLE, humanity is better off now then ever before. It's more of a historians approach. Critics then attack him from a current day political perspective (arguments about capitalism, power structures, greed etc.) which to me is a category error. Pinkers stance is a set of macro facts (statistics on death by starvation, death by homicide, death by weather conditions, economic well being across history etc.) and critics respond with political critiques of the day ("he is a spokes person for liberal elitism" etc.). That misses the point in my view.

6. Damn this is the most explicitly critical I’ve seen Anand be. He tends to be a little cautious about ill intent, even in his book he somewhat gives the elite the benefit of the doubt.
