I recently had the pleasure of interviewing the biologist Rupert Sheldrake, a brilliant and original thinker who has gained significant attention for his controversial theory that there exists an evolving memory behind nature which shapes the development of life, mind, and the entire universe. As we discuss, there is a surprising amount of evidence in support of his hypothesis, which Rupert calls Morphic Resonance.
After following Rupert’s work for many years, it was an honor for me to speak with him. We discussed many subjects in our conversation, including among others, the fundamental nature of consciousness, the science behind telepathy, a need for a more open-minded science, collective consciousness, the power of psychedelics, and mystical experiences.

Stop saying "yeah" whenever the other person stops talking. That will improve your technique. It's noticeable.
Dogs are awesome. My old dog used to get excited 3 -4 minutes before a mate [who loved her] would arrive… it was a 3 hour drive for him to visit… but she would just get excited in a certain way just before he arrived. A couple of minutes after she starts wagging and pacing… yep, sounds like Cory's 4wd coming down the road… no way she heard his car from 6-7 klms away. She just knew a friendly pat was coming.

Rupert Sheldrake is so poised and eloquent, truly classic and a real pleasure to listen to. A deep thinker who points out relevant questions and probabilities that provokes one to consider or reconsider ones observations and beliefs concerning the common accepted knowledge and the inexplicable mysteries and magnificence of life. Sheldrake excites our exploratory nature to discover better solutions and experiences.
I like Rupert, however your title 'The Conscious Universe' is not correct. The Universe is NOT conscious. Only Consciousness is Conscious. The Universe and all objects are mere appearances in consciousness.
If you think the Universe is conscious then that is a materialistic way of thinking, If the Universe is conscious then we should be able to find it, this Solid universe, or even just the Earth or even our own bodies but the closer we look the less real everything becomes, and the less solid, until it ends in a field of energy from which everything rises. This IS the ocean of consciousness. Therefore, could the Universe exist without consciousness? obviously not. Can consciousness exist without the Universe? Of course, consciousness was never born, it is not in Time. And as it was never born it can never die.
When you are in your dream world what happens to the you in the dream? Where did you go? Did you die in the dream? Maybe you did, how would you ever know? Then you went back to the deep sleep of consciousness, then you woke up and thought (I am back in the 'real world.' So what do you mean by 'real?' Why do you 'believe' the waking state is any more real than deep sleep? After being in the waking state for a whilst you then 'fell asleep again. How do you know the waking is more real than the dreaming? Or the deep sleep? None of them are more real than another; they are the same, the sameness of consciousness is the sameness of the Universe we all share. And it is all rising in the present moment, in the now. The eternal now.
What is born in Time must die in Time. So if your true nature is eternal then you cannot be your body because that dies in Time. That also means you are not your name, not your job, not your personality, not your likes and dislikes, not your ego as all of these things are objects, mistaken thinking and names. We cannot find any object made of matter as mentioned earlier, all we find is a field of energy. All that is real is the field of energy, this field is awareness/consciousness, to our puny earth minds this field is God.
If I asked you 'Are you aware?' You first go silent and think, maybe step outside yourself and observe your body and mind and say 'yes I am aware'.
So what is it that 'knows' you are aware?
It is awareness itself (awareness/consciousness). that knows. Thats what you truly are, you are pure awareness so say hello to your true self.
Ridiculous… The eye does not "project" 3D images, it receives light waves in stereo and over time processes them into a stereo field in the brain, but not in 3D as he suggests. That is not to say that the Mind doesn't see all as well. The "Self" uses the tools it has, that work best in this dimension, our Senses. Also 1- There was no big bang, that is just silly. There was no beginning either. 2- Nature does not make laws for an Infinite Universe… Consciousness organizes EVERYTHING. Spirit before Form. And laws do not "evolve". 3- The second law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of any isolated system always increases… unless "something" intervenes.

I agree that the concept claiming the sawn image is inside the watcher's head is dogmatic. However, the claim that the image is at the position of the glanced object is dogmatic too. Say one looks at a tree in the TV, will the image be inside the head, inside the TV, or at the actual location of the tree ? What if the tree does not exist in reality and is a computer animation ? Same question from a different point of view: can one sense if stared at through a close loop TV ?

When I'm driving on the freeway at 90 mph, hauling ass, minding my own business, I will suddenly, for no reason, look two lanes across, and sure enough, someone is looking at me, and we make eye contact.. and I can look at someone and they suddenly make eye contact with me… There is something going on with that…if in fact we did arise from the big bang, all electrons and all protons, etc, are entangled. It really is amazing that were here at all and able to communicate as we do. Yet look at all the horrors and wars that go on and I have to ask why is it so hard for people to get along with other people and accept that we all are different yet much the same, we all want the same things, more of what we like and less of what we don't so why is it so hard for us to create a world where all people are catered to and helped to have a higher quality of experience of life? Yet when we talk of the Cosmos it's hard to not just make a joke about sending a probe into Uranus.
