  1. I can’t see it in the comments but it must be there over the year this video has been live. A correct: “100,000 feet or 300,000 meters” in the first minute of the video. I think you mean “30,000 meters”. Thanks for the video!

  2. Sometimes the world can feel like it’s getting worse or we aren’t making progress but to think we’ve gone from steam trains to this in a few generations is wonderful. What a brilliant video and what an amazing system we’ve collectively developed.

  3. If you have the right antenna and software, you can listen to the data stream coming from the GOES satellites and look at the pictures they send down. I had a science teacher in high school in the dark ages of the mid 90s who did just that. He had an antenna on the roof of the building. A computer in his room could grab images from, what was back then, GOES 8. He was one of the best teachers I ever had. I just think theres something cool about the idea that anyone can listen to a government satellite and get data from it. Building the antenna from cheap materials is relatively easy. The software is not too hard to understand, either.

  4. Maybe you could take down any videos that are more than 90 days old when all they are is whether I would take them down ever seven days personally because otherwise you lose credibility we’re looking for today’s weather not six year old weather FYI

  5. haha! I built a scale model of the GOES 8 (I think) right at the end of the days when it was just a little cheaper /faster to just build a physical model and photograph it (for the national evening news)

  6. the hidden complexity of the modern world is amazing. The average person will never understand or bother trying to get an idea of all the work that is required to make the modern world run smoothly

  7. It's so cool to see so many people who work in this field in the comments! We thank all of you for your hard work to provide us with these things that we access for free 💜
