Panpsychism, the view that consciousness is fundamental to reality, is gaining new support in science and philosophy. Once a fringe idea – modern versions of this view have become an important part of the conversation in neuroscience, artificial intelligence, philosophy of mind, and even cosmology.
Today on Waking Cosmos, Adrian explores the philosophical position known as panpsychism, and the cause of its growing popularity.

If I understand the goal of this presentation, and of panpsychism, it is to "understand the underlying nature of reality" – the essence of matter and of consciousness. Since we don't understand the underlying nature of either one, wouldn't it be nice if there was some entity that subserved that underlying nature of both? That seems so rationally perfect! But it begs the question, still, of what that underlying stuff is? From my perspective, this is all self delusion, the product of minds that are designed to find meaning and derive predictions by their nature. The underlying nature of reality is information. All matter, including photons and similar particles, are at their most fundamental level patterns of energy. Our minds are information processors. Our thoughts are patterns of information. So there is really no fundamental difference between the underlying nature of reality and the nature of consciousness. Try asking yourself why you think there is instead of chasing your thoughts around in your head like a cat chasing its tail.
I love your voice MetaRising. You sound very humble and friendly.
absolutely top notch discussion. i have to see if you did one of Idealism. Wonderful.
I would like to know if you are reading from something you could direct me to or is this something that you wrote and researched for yourself?
Great work!
In respect for need of funds to continue WTF I’m doing. No. Go get a real fucking job. Ok 👌
In this video you only give definitions of the subject along with a bit of history. You added absolutely nothing to the subject. So. You want money for purpose of being some kind of talking dictionary. Fuck the fuck off on the money.
Think about it…………
Science only tells us what matter DOES, not what it IS.
Scientists are continually performing a magic trick, making it seem like they know what matter IS.
They DON'T.

Best philosophy books!!
My god. .. what have you done
Thank you. I can almost see, from a few of the very last words in your writings here, a lead in to a discussion of the "extended mind", maybe touching upon the thought-realms of Sheldrake, Dean Radin and that group.
I had to eat a lot of slimy mushrooms out of cow patties to learn this on my own
Is that that the universe is ? Our universe after the Big Bang is consciousness ?,, mathematicians ,single cell and time
Dr Ben Goertzel talks about "panpsychism" allot. I got involved with his AI project but there's a mysticism tradition I got into called Drukama. Check it out, the different meditative teachings lead right into this. Thank you for these great uploads! Be well!
I wish there was more to look at than just this picture
You are brilliant, very clear speaker too
I'm on board with you and ITT. Your work is correct. Keep going my friend.
Consciousness always requires an object, whether external/physical or internal/mental, to apprehend, so how is it "intrinsic" and "in itself" when it must bear relation to something in order to make any sense?
Excellent work !
The future is looking bright for Consciousness.
