The Third Industrial Revolution: A Radical New Sharing Economy

VICE

The global economy is in crisis. The exponential exhaustion of natural resources, declining productivity, slow growth, rising unemployment, and steep inequality, forces us to rethink our economic models. Where do we go from here? In this feature-length documentary, social and economic theorist Jeremy Rifkin lays out a road map to usher in a new economic system.

A Third Industrial Revolution is unfolding with the convergence of three pivotal technologies: an ultra-fast 5G communication internet, a renewable energy internet, and a driverless mobility internet, all connected to the Internet of Things embedded across society and the environment.

This 21st century smart digital infrastructure is giving rise to a radical new sharing economy that is transforming the way we manage, power and move economic life. But with climate change now ravaging the planet, it needs to happen fast. Change of this magnitude requires political will and a profound ideological shift.

  2. So in which part of this planned revolution does it state that it's meant to keep us locked in our homes like cattle? Not such a pretty picture anymore right?

  3. Productivity continues to rise according to the Bureau of Labor statistics. The billionaires who control employment and the internet, want to keep people powerless, as economic slaves. Look around, this is wishful thinking. The plan for the future is to do nothing and make sure the powerful control others.

  4. This will work for Europe or China because they don’t have oil and they have to buy it 60 to 70% of the crude oil after the refinery is a fuel 30% or 40% is petro chemical which we need and it’s necessity to every day of life what we gonna do if we don’t use that fuel where are we going to store it how are you going to use it and keep in mind we talking about hundred million barrels of crude oil every day goes to refinery

  5. OMG so disappointing lecture, everything he is presenting is available on internet for years yet he speaks as he just discovered it? What was that dramatic end of the world intro and then he does not cover how this will prevent/mitigate damage of 6th world die out? UH wind turbines and solar panel , electric cars are not so efficient mate , one electric car spend as much as small house. Not saying that fossil fuels are good, good knows what is happening down below with all those holes left by oil companies, how tectonic movements are affected by endless drilling . I just don't like this guy, somehow sound half measured populist… 0 margin You tube? Sorry this guys sounds false.

  6. Partner…I Hear ya…I heard you 30 -40 years ago…I never planned to have Children…i thought the US and the World was overpopulated by 1965….but…Now we have more knowledge an proof of our demise…and the Young people are cranking out Kids as if you have bern telling them….the opposite of all this….we read “ Silent Spring” but most Boomers…cranked out 2…3…4…5….Children and in the 3rd World …the people with the least money …make the most babies….our main problem over history…is too much reproduction and sex….thoughtless reproduction….and i feel worse about the demise of Animals than Humans….they are innocent but we are not….we should be intelligent….but do not think….we kill trillions of Animals to Eat….and when we stop that slaughter….there may be some hope for our Species…but we over rate ourselves….Aliens would likely put us on the level of Chickens ….clever and with thumbs to make weapons but never thinking past our beaks…Chickens do not..self destruct…millions of Buffalo would still be around …they harmed nothing….we wiped out the Trees and made portions of the Planet unrecognizable…Make more babies …buy more Cars.

  7. I think we’ve been connecting the dots for several decades now. Problem is the govts & big business are the ones promoting and funding the clearing of rainforests for farmland grazing. And promoting large scale & cruel factory factory. Not the average citizen. Small poor farmers take advantage of the opportunity to make money but its driven by large corporations & govt.

  8. A minute of the world’s YouTube streams releases as much carbon dioxide as leaving a 100-watt light bulb on for an entire year. So what the hell is this guy talking about!?

  9. Im watching this for the first time in 2020, 12:08 am on November 3rd, contemplating this entire speech and what it means. This has changed my entire perspective.. Thank You.

  10. Dear o dear. Can’t wait till the tax evaders find out. They are the reason developing countries will forever be developing…. The city of London…. go and invite them to your seminar… see how you go

  11. The core premise of this documentary is false. Global productivity has no been declining for the past 20 years. Over the course of the last 20 years the rate of increase in global worker productivity has slowed global, productivity itself has increased and even in Developed economies where productivity is stagnant definitely not been a decrease, more a levelling off.
