Be cool if the company made more battles for the civil war, wanna see a neat battle? Look at Chickamauga, one of the bloodiest, more bloody then Gettysburg.
I believe your skirmishers failed to inflict meaningful casualties on the guns during their charge because they just so happened to be catching all sorts of artillery fire from gun batteries further back. They retreated almost immediately.
