The Poetry of Reality with Richard Dawkins
In this episode of The Poetry of Reality, Richard Dawkins engages in an insightful conversation with Steven Pinker about evolution, his motivation for writing The Blind Watchmaker, and a breakdown of his latest book, The Genetic Book of the Dead
Steven Pinker is a Canadian-American cognitive psychologist, psycholinguist, popular science author, and public intellectual. He is an advocate of evolutionary psychology and the computational theory of mind.
This was filmed in Boston, Massachusetts, as part of Richard Dawkins’ tour.

Even Dawkins’ own words betray him. He talks about cell characteristics being “switched on.” What does switched on clearly imply?
Dawkins claims that the ratio between what the theory of natural selection can explain and what it needs to assume is colossal. The only thing we need to assume is heredity – that's about it. Dawkins tries to pretend that heredity is a small thing.
Well, heredity is no small thing. Heredity is based on DNA/RNA, which in effect is an extremely complex digital system. Advanced mathematics, similar to computers. What kind of "blind" small spontaneous steps transformed dead matter into extremely complex replicatory molecules based on advanced digital mathematics? Where does even mathematics come from??
Dawkins has jumped onto a running train. He doesn't have a clue how it started and that should worry him, profoudly.
Suddenly I can't unsee how gigantic those chairs are
37:56 I don't see how Time's interpretation of these ideas was incorrect. Was it exaggerated? Perhaps, but not much.
What's up with those chairs?
Very erudite. A bit swarmy. A bit totalitarian intellectually. Seeds of a new religion?
Don't you dare smear Ed Wilson.
what has religion done for us in the last 10,000 years? not one phone, not one vehicle, not one medical breakthrough. toss it in the dustbin.
Just think of all the suicide bombers, who wouldn’t have a job
The atheists who gave us communism and next up likely trans humanism are wrong about evolution. The Church defeated the dark occult, communism and it will defeat trans humanism. Evolution happened but the human prototype is the universe as Da Vinci rightly saw it; not an animal as Darwin wrongly saw it. The human is the microcosm of the macrocosm or as religion expresses it; made in the image of God which is the universe. It has been said that science, not religion will prove the existence of God and it is the case, now atheist philosophers are studying “the hard problem of consciousness” which is what has been named God.
ODDS OF 200 cell types in 37 trillion cell locations
1 in 200^37000000000000 odds by random copy errors
There's only 10^38 mutations in all history
Figuring this now the odds are 1 in 200^3700000000000 zeros
GOD DID IT
JESUS IS LORD
SON OF GOD
SON OF MAN
DIED
ROSE
IS ALIVE IN THE FLESH
Who cares whether God exists or not? If he does he does, if he does not then we have all been lied to, although I think not. I think, therefore I must be right. Birds of a feather flock together, as do crazy Athiests.
Two intellectual giants
sorry Steven, nobody tuned in to hear you ruminate and pontificate. these "conversations" are better or worse depending on how much attention the questioner needs and how much they talk. just ask a good question; and a good question is succinct!
I'm glad I listened to this because Dawkins corrected a few misconceptions I had, so very educational talk.
Lately I’ve had this thought that anybody smart enough can convince you that they are right. The spoken word went well is very powerful.
While I respect Steven Pinker enormously for his intellectual abilities and ouevre, it was really irritating to hear more of him than Dawkins in this video
It's long been my thought that when it comes to issues like the sensibility of mask wearing during a pandemic or currently personal behaviors regards anthropogenic climate change — academics and politicians need to be more than talking heads. That is, actions speak louder than words. The world needs role models. Of course, I'm biased. 😊.

Evolution is a complete fairytale. Random mutations cannot result in complex integrated systems, regardless of any imagined power of natural selection.
Dawkins is correct about PE… that only minuscule changes are remotely plausible. The problem remains…inheritance is particulate. Even the tiniest nucleotide changes that can create any significant phenotypic variation almost always involve more than one specific nucleotide. This is clearly impossible from a mathematical perspective. The probability of just two specific nucleotide substitutions to occur in one individual is one in trillions
Science vs religion. For the USA audiences, Albert Einstein from Jewish background, when questioned on subjects beyond the logic realm quoted " God does not play with dice", from a muslim perspective " Allah the creator plays with dice".
12:00 What is a blind watch maker, an Ai automated precision machine assembly line.
24:00 small and large mutations and effects. Consider the electronic revolution and how its changed a single generation.
34 : 00 onwards the Selfish Gene. My ex wife once mentioned, we all die alone, meanimg you go through life as an infant, then progress through education and all the trial and tribulations of life. Whether you are married and family, single or live with a partner. You die alone as an individual. Quantum paths.

According to Hindus' Bhagwad-Gita, the eternal Energy of the ever existing, infinite, indestructible, formless & changeless Space is the CAUSE of the existence of the Universe 😅
What actually is the cause of the existence of the Universe, according to the holy Quran?😮
What actually is the CAUSE of the existence of the Universe, according to the holy Bible?😮
I believe, the answer is in nature, if we look at it, there is always two sides: left and right, up and down, positive and negative, live and death and in relation to it, our mind was not created to understand that. It is true that when science discover o invent devices to improve our lives, it is a very humane thing but it need to be garded by moral principles to avoid use that against us.Now, which entity should be in charge of instill those values in society: religion, moral or science?Farthermore, all the advance we have in society now, have been designed by human mind and since we are part nature I am inclined to tink that we are a design too.
An example of loquacious versus laconic. The "loquacious" attempts to persuade by bombarding the listener with a mass of information, usually encapsulated with technical jargon. The listener is "convinced" because they barely understand to argument ip so facto it must be profound. The "laconic" attempts to persuade by keeping it simple and precise. Well done Dawkins.
The Dawkins Delusion. Dawkins, the great atheist intellectual, is talking rubbish. Not because science isn’t important but simply because he doesn’t understand the difference between empiricism and metaphysics. In the same way you can’t use scientific methodology/materialism to disprove the existence of God, you can’t use it to prove the existence of God. Dawkins is a determinist. He believes no one has free will. He believes serial killers aren’t responsible for their crimes because their murders were all predetermined. It wasn’t their fault according to Dawkins. Science has and is doing wonderful things in medicine. It has its place in the world. But it can’t explain pain, love, justice, a sense of awe when looking at a beautiful painting. Dawkins tries to reduce everything down to materialism but lives his live surrounded by things we believe in but can’t prove by hypotheses and experimentation. Look at a beautiful flower. Science can tell you about its genome, but it can’t explain your emotions. Nor can it explain consciousness. Dawkins is out of his depth. I don’t want evangelical Christians trying to convert me to Christianity and I don’t want evangelical atheists like Dawkins trying to make me believe in scientism. It’s boring and both should simply get on with being Christians and atheists. Being an atheist doesn’t make any more interesting than being Christians. I have nothing against either. But I just wish atheists would stop rabbiting on.
