A Jesus spirit is one of humbleconfidence. Always be humble. We not only have feet made of clay, but the wings we think we’ve “earned” are only made of feather and wax that melt and cause us to crash-and-burn if we pridefully soar too close to the sun. The hardest part of being humble is accepting the fact that you can’t do everything, that while there are no limitations (“all things are possible”) life has limits. We all have limits, differing limits for each one of us. You and I are limited human beings in terms of time, talent, treasure, and testimony
When Carl Jung was interviewed on BBC’s “Face to Face” by John Freeman, he was asked if he believed in God. Jung replied “I don’t believe, I know.” That’s the courage of confidence, . . “I KNOW IN WHOM I HAVE BELIEVED.”
In the 16th century classic “Interior Castle,” Teresa of Avila distinguished between two paths to humility, one healthy, one dangerous. The dangerous path to humility is looking at yourself and your own failings and shortcomings. The healthy path to humility is looking at Christ, and basking in his beauty and majesty.
A mantra I taught my kids Thane, Soren and Egil: “Don’t litter your food. Don’t litter your mood.”
