Evolution is often considered a complex and controversial topic but it’s actually a very simple concept to understand. Watch this short animation to see how evolution works. Share it with your friends on Facebook who might be confused or may have been mislead about the evolutionary process.

This video is our first animation with illustrations from the talented Rosemary Mosco. If you don’t already know her work, make sure to check out her website at http://BirdAndMoon.com You’ll love her biology comics, posters and t-shirts.

The definition of Evolution:

“Genetic change in a population of organisms; in general, evolution leads to progressive change from simple to complex.” – Biology, Seventh Edition, Raven, Johnson, Losos, Singer (college textbook) pg G-6 glossary

“Descent with modification…change in the genetic composition of a population from generation to generation.” – Biology Eighth Edition, Campbell, Reece (college textbook) pg G-14 glossary

“Biological evolution, simply put, is descent with modification. This definition encompasses small-scale evolution (changes in gene frequency in a population from one generation to the next) and large-scale evolution (the descent of different species from a common ancestor over many generations). Evolution helps us to understand the history of life.” University of California Berkley http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evosite/evo101/IIntro.shtml

  1. if we all evolved from the same organism, why don't we see changes from one organism to another, evidence of any changes in the geological column, or why are there even still simple organisms at all? Just something to think about. There is a difference between the theory of microevolution and hypothesis of macroevolution.

  2. who here is watching this for home learning during lockdown? im pleased im looking at evolution at home instead of school cos i have my old friend google around XD

  3. Religion in US worth more than Google and Apple combined
The faith economy is worth $1.2 TRILLION a year (not accounting for fraud and lack of transparency in many sects) – more than the combined revenues of 10 biggest tech firms in America, 2016 study shows. The analysis did not take account of the value of financial or physical assets held by religious groups. Neither did it account for “the negative impacts that occur in some religious communities, including … such things as the abuse of children by some clergy, cases of fraud, and the possibility of being recruitment sites for violent extremism”.

  4. That sir is untrue. You seem to misunderstand that evolution is NOT a completely random proscess. A basic explanation is: mutations appear In generations, the favorable mutations get passed on. Its may seem random since the genetics involved include random mutation but its not. I can understand how it appears random "just because it "isnt predictable," but it IS, if you know enough of the factors. i.e. We can't predict how a bird will evolve because we dont know what the ecological factors will be. Make sense?

  5. I have a friend with 6 fingers in the right hand. He has evolved however He is looking into surgeries to cut the extra finger off. I thought that evolution was to pass from one specie to another. Like from apes to mankind.

  6. HOW TO IDENTIFY A FAKE (aka ANY) RELIGION:
    1. The deity has never been seen, has never been heard, and cannot be detected in any way other than
    unsubstantiated 'feelings'.
    2. Miracles and supernatural events are claimed but are invariably nothing more than hearsay.
    3. Praying to the deity has no effect whatsoever.
    4. Believers are motivated by the promise of a reward (greed) and threat of punishment (cowardice), which is how dogs are trained.
    5. The religion's holy text is nothing but a series of claims, most of which are absurd.
    6. A man or men claim to speak for the deity and demand money in his name.
Mysteriously, these men all become very wealthy. They often also demand sex or commit rape with the alleged approval of their deity.

  7. WHAT is evolution? ANSWER; Except for microevolution, the greatest assumption in the history of science, and dead wrong. The antiquated theory had it's genesis in the mid-19th century when a single living cell was thought to be scarcely more complex than a blob of Jell-O The proposed mechanism even today is absurd. life is infinitely too complex to be generated by random copying errors of the DNA. The prerequisite for believing macroevolution demands checking reason, logic, and common sense at the door. That's not asking too much is it?
Rare beneficial mutations are the result of a gargantuan crapshoot, and utterly dependent on an endless variety of environmental conditions and pressures. The synthesis of functional protein shapes, however, require the utmost in precision. Untold numbers of them. Luck vanishes. You want hemoglobin… the DNA coding carrying the instructions for their assembly has to be dead on target in order for it to fold into the required shape. Not any novel protein will do. This in spite of the fact that the number of possible combinations of amino acids at each peptide bond in even modestly sized protein chains dwarfs human comprehension. With the addition of each additional amino acid the number inflates exponentially. Now imagine a chain of say 900 amino acids. This takes precision coding to phenomenal heights. And remember all of the protein shapes in the history of life at one point in time were never before seen…..each one new and unique
The proposed mechanism must display a reasonable degree of reliability if it is to drive life into ever increasing complexity over eons of time… all the way from bacteria to Beethoven. It does not. Natural selection doesn't actually "select" anything. It is bereft of consciousness. It's merely another description of survival of the fittest. It is a slave to an undirected process. The mutation lottery has been imbued with magical and fantastical powers by supporters of the theory. Rationality be damned. It is a worldview. Welcome to the the dark age of science. Now showing at a school near you.
