Chances are you wouldn’t be able to recognize a biohazard even if you were looking right at one. But the biohazard symbol? It’s pretty easy to spot. Most warning icons rely on previously established objects or symbols: a general caution might use an exclamation point, and a fire warning might use an illustration of a flame. But the biohazard symbol references an idea that is much harder to picture — and in the 50 years since its invention, it has become one of the most recognizable icons on the planet. But can the meaning of a symbol like this last an eternity? A special Department of Energy project is trying to figure that out.

Anyone else think the biohazard symbol looks different it looks like it’s thicker
Charles Baldwin more like Charles Darwin
With the idea that people could create the myth of glowing cats as a sign of bad luck, that raises the questions: “Are the belief we have now based off of past scientists attempting to turn humans away?” We currently don’t have any such instances on Earth but perhaps in the solar system, there will be satanic symbols on asteroids or planets that scientists of the past put to try and deter us. Perhaps our moral compass, for instance, our principals that killing is bad and such, was created because scientists wanted to deter us from immorality. For us, glowing cats seem like a joke but perhaps killing seemed like a joke to people before us. As of now, we don’t know, and we may never know.
Orrrrrr, you do it like Finland. Find the most forgettable, useless and pointless place you can. A place no one would ever have a reason to go to. Bury the nuclear waste there and then erase any sign of the facility. Then walk away, forget about it and hope it STAYS forgotten.
The symbol at the start would be on a nuke

Wow
This is a very unique topic and something we should all think of!
OMG this is such a useless debate!!! I can't believe that so many scientists spent so much time and energy on something like A SYMBOL!!! My gawd!
I don't think there is any level of symbolism that would quell human curiosity.
not gonna lie if i saw spike fields i would be tempted to go in
How about a realisting drawing of a person dying from radiations/biohazard that makes evident the suffering and the deadliness?
That second bassy voiceover that comes in for a line or two here and there is totally unnecessary
The bioluminescent cat idea is pretty wild, but how would one control what tenets a religion would keep vs what it would throw away over thousands of years? The bible says not to mix fabrics, for example. Practically, (but not ethically) it would be better to just genetically engineer humans to immediately react very negatively to excessive radioactivity. Honestly, the best thing to do is probably to bury all the radioactive waste very deep in some extremely uninhabitable place that people are unlikely to ever settle in the next 10-20k years.
challenge accepted
I think the problem is not making the message understood, because that doesn't keep people away. We understood the warnings is Egyptian tombs yet we opened them. The aim is to keep people away even if they don't understand the message. Not my idea but using smell seems like the best option. If you find a field that smells terrible, no one is getting close but scholars who will find out it's dangerous. How do you keep a smell for 10K years? With a genetically designed ecosystem! Ecosystems can last for millions of years, are self sustainable and can be contained by factors like nutrients or climate. Throw a bunch of GMOs like fungi that have an unbearable smell, make sure the ecosystem is stable and voilà, you isolated the site "forever".
