Logic Remote on the iPad is the best, most integrated “controller” to use with Logic Pro X. Learn why Logic Remote beats all other MIDI controllers.

Diiiiiid not look anything like how I thought he would
is there any latency on the midi controls?
Anyone know how to view/ adjust effects and eq on the master bus with logic remote
?
Presonus is know for no being a good choice for logic. Behringer X-Touch is very well suit for logic. I am using an iPad pro with Logic Remote, but the automation with fingers scratching the screen was not very smooth to use.
Nice Video.. Can the app be used as a articulations remote ?
You’ve encapsulated the big fundamental problems with controllers just like that! Bravo for your honesty… I so need to revisit my iPad remote software…
The impact LX88+ seems to be the best 3rd party midi controller for integration with Logic. However, the controls are hit or miss when controlling 3rd party plugins. I absolutely love it, but I also use logic remote on my 2018 ipad pro 12.9”. I mostly use the ipad for shortcuts. When I first bought my imac a year ago, a friend gave me a license for Ableton live 9 suite. So I ordered the editor keys Ableton keyboard instead of the magic keyboard. Well, after a week or two I had the $ to buy logic! I learned on an ipad air 2 in GarageBand, so logic was just the perfect next step. So I’ve been stuck with a keyboard which shows Ableton shortcuts in logic. So using logic remote for the keyboard shortcuts works perfectly!!
Thanks man 👍
This video is JUST what I needed. I moved from Logic to Ableton as my primary driver a couple years ago because I also needed the Live mode. Now that Logic 10.5 has taken on this same functionality in a easier to understand and read way, I wanted to make the move backs. I had dragged my feet though because I had learned and have been using the Push 2 for Ableton which is simply amazing and perhaps the most tightly integrated MIDI controller I have ever seen. I had used Logic Remote years ago but because the lack of tactile response didn’t use it to its potential. Now that the app has grown so much and you can buy larger iPads now I finally sold my Push 2 and purchased a new iPad AND the Novation Launchpad X for nearly half the price so I have a balance of tactile response and functionality. Your video showed me the potential of the App and the most important part of creating is not having to waste time and energy guessing on knobs or buttons or having to jump between the laptop and the interface you are using to write and create with. Thank you, cheers
Bonus Tip: a Mac can recognise an iPad as an "analog" input. All you need is a standard USB cable to connect it to the Mac and to enable it in Audio MIDI Setup on your Mac. Then anything played or played back in the iPad will be recorded in Logic as audio. Say you have an instrument only on your iPad and external to Logic Remote, you can record it as audio in Logic just like you record a guitar or a vocal so to say. THAT is a sick feature!
I’ve been using logic remote for a while, I don’t think they’re updating the interface anytime soon.
But your point about fader length is true, I’ve got a Nektar controller with about 60mm of fader throw, it’s pathetic for making fine adjustments.
i bet steve jobs has alreay think about this thing in his vision
This video inspired me to go out and buy an iPad and do it. But guess what.. I can’t get my iMac to speak with my new iPad Pro. Total waste of time. I’m taking the iPad back.
I've got a question; is there a way to use Remote to control Superior Drummer though Logic? I'm a complete noob, please use small words and speak slowly LOL!
Hi Chris – very helpful, thanks! By the way, I thought you were great as Cypher in the Matrix.
Okay, I ended up borrowing a friend's old iPad for a bit, and it's doing pretty alright for recording stuff, but what I really want is to be able to control Remix FX on an individual channel strip (because yes, I want a filter and stutter on an individual channel for performance purposes). I end up getting the list of parameters instead of the XY and strip controls, but I swear I've seen it work on individual channel strips in Logic Remote (maybe only on the stereo out?). I definitely can't use the iPad for performance stuff, that's where the keyboard comes in.
I'm looking at trading up to an iPhone 11 Pro Max (it's hella cheaper than it was and not going to be able to afford a 12 when it's released), so that's all I'll have available when the time comes to return the iPad.
Anyone having trouble opening the channel EQ on their iPad?
Will this work with a late 2013 iMac?
HOly crap even on my tiny iPhone SE this is a godsend 🙂 I can stand up and track easily now!
Having a vocal booth away from my iMac, and being able to control my recording/punch-in etc from the iPad in the vocal booth is great!
What ipad are you using?
Have you tried using the ipad pro, if yes then my question is does the 120hz refresh rate of the pro gives an edge & more percision (realistically) when writing automation?
Is there an UNDO key command?
Always heard your voice in ur tutorials now good to see voice with u sir.. ur tutorials is just awesome ur a great tutor sir
I use LR on iPhone SE, drum pads aren't responsive enough for finger drumming, I wonder if its just me or maybe the small display has something to do with it
Can anyone tell me if they can actually do finger drumming in LR on their device?
100% agree with your point about putting logos in drum pads
Great video, overal I agree that LR is amazing
What is you opinion on the novation 61SL mkIII?
To affect the pitch go to different keys, slide to an other note side to side. It’s the same as the GarageBand keyboards on the iPad and iPhone seems like all the extra features on the GarageBand iPad stuff is there, live loops and stuff plus a bunch of more stuff (key commands and alike)
I agree! I just got the M32 and love it. And I just moved back to Logic Pro from Ableton/Push2 and the iPad remote (and Logic’s new features) are the bomb! It just works, and works very well!
Excellent breakdown. Thank you.
Great info, subbed. Can I use Logic Remote for step input?
Actually I believe for changing the pitch you actually hit the key and go to the right or left not up for really boards
Wow 🤩, this is crazy
I prefer a hardware 100mm Fader with 1024 resolution, than rubbing ona glass . Ever tried a Nektar Panorama ? P6 ?
Im going to make good use of this on the go yes.
Excellent vid! Thank you.
Well. Wish I saw this about six hours ago. Oh well… I think there is a return policy.
It is awesome. This is exactly how any ipad app should co-exist with a daw. Ableton, Native Instrument, MPC, really needs to follow this kind of implementation. Ableton has somewhat of a similar experience with touchable, but not quite the same.
What about the foot switch function, like the one on the faderport classic? Great video too. Thanks!!
I feel like I should be tipping you.
yeh I only use the Mac keyboard and mouse to for logic ( + animoog iOS app on iPad and the Digitone )
I just need to find the chords that ill use for music theory
I like the minimalistic approach
Any fun stuff with the new update. Avid controller for now
Great information, I’ve used logic remote, and wasn’t aware of a lot of the features. Thanks (new subscriber)
