Boston Dynamics
Robots should be able to grasp and move things in the physical world the same way people can. Until now, we’ve been focused on simplifying manual manipulation tasks, where an operator uses the Spot Arm to interact with the world from a safe distance. But for the very first time, some of those manipulation capabilities are now available in autonomous missions.
In our recent software release, customers can now use the Spot Arm to open doors autonomously during Autowalk missions. Although this is still a beta feature, it will open up new inspection routes and allow Spot to move from room to room on its own, even in a completely empty facility. We’re excited to see what new challenges you’ll tackle as you implement this and all the other new features.

Now they just need to improve it so it can open it in a single fluid motion rather than having to hold the door with a leg and transfer the gripper from one side of the knob to the other.

Have you considered maybe not having it stand directly in front of the door when opening it? Really awkward mechanics making it stop the door with its foot, snake its grabber around the door, and then back up to let the door open.
Should instead stand to the right of the door oriented at an angle to face the opening. Then pull handle, put left front foot to hold door, put grabber wherever you want after letting go of the handle and go through.
Idk it's weird to describe how using a door works in detail but they're getting it wrong for some reason. Maybe an issue with how the sensors work I'm not aware of but spot always seems so fuckin awkward
Edit: on rewatch it looks like those yellow squares on the floor are probably showing spot it's not allowed to stand there. If that's true then I guess this is how you'd do it in a narrow space

I always feel like a proud parent when I see robots do stuff like this.
We've got a robot at work called Dolly for precisely this reason.

Come on, what does this video show? That a simple thing like opening a door is even today a really hard thing to realize for a robot. A Human does this 10 times faster.

They should make one that can switch out it’s own gear for different tasks or repair itself (mix that with true ai)
