ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the worldโ€™s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.

ABOUT US
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order’s first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

  1. ….always so meticulously you explain the context, time & again reminding us, why we are doing this exercise, why we are trying to understand in this way, &, bring us from dwaita queries & doubts to proper Advaita Vedanta….it is a commendable job๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

  5. With due respect sir

I love listening to swamiji but I dont want to become a PhD in vedanta. Most of the listeners would like to understand vedanta in simple words and wouldnt have intellect like swamiji.

Apropos, in case your intent is to cause welfare of troubled souls and make them follow the vedanta philosophy as a way to achieve the liberation. Then, may I humbly request you to cut the abstract and deliver what will help.

My experience in life, whenever I was very clear on a subject, it was possible for me to explain in simplest of words and in shortest of time. Same was felt by Eienstein also.

Guru is required to transform the myriad of knowledge into something which his humble students can follow and understand.

Long abstract lectures lead to confusion and lack of concentration.

  6. Swamiji, this is from Hegel's History of Philosophy.
I see connections from the three steps you are referring to and Hegelian Kapilism.
This lecture is intense and I will have to reschedule a more careful listen.
Ultimately the three steps are nothing but Samapatti which is the absolute Dyad
represented as the concept enclosed within itself…
this is the Triadic Dyad enclosed within itself as 7-fold Prajna:
    grahitri tat-stat-tat ….grahana tat-stha-tat….grahya tat-stat-tat
this is the Triadic Dyad in itself [the final nirodha is the seventh level]

This extract from Hegel is important and I want to share it.

Sankhya and likewise the other Indian systems of Philosophy,
occupy themselves particularly with the three qualities (Guna)
of the Absolute Idea, which are represented as substances
    and as modifications of nature.

It is noteworthy that in the observing consciousness of the Indians
it struck them that what is true and in and for itself
    contains three determinations,
and the Notion of the Idea is perfected in three moments.

This sublime consciousness of the trinity,
which we find again in Plato and others,
then went astray in the region of thinking contemplation
and retains its place only in Religion,
and there but as a Beyond.

Then the understanding penetrated tthrough it,
    declaring it to be senseless;
and it was Kant who broke open the road once more
    to its comprehension.

The reality and totality of the Notion of everything,
considered in its substance, is absorbed by
    the triad of determinations;
and it has become the business of our times
    to bring this to consciousness.

  7. Thank you Swamiji for dismissing the thought on BECOMING (God-like) in Advaita.
Thank you for implying that Advaita strives to establish the paradigm of Oneness – Being/Existence and Sentience/Awareness in Brahman and Jiva alike.
Looking fwd to your next class on Jiva-Brahma Aikyam.

  8. Swamiji you are just great! 10. NAMASTE SWAMIJI.Can we use the 0cean metaphor for proving Tattvamasi.A sunami wave and a tiny wave.they r hugely different as waves but one and the same as water?

  11. Wonder how can ego and samsara survive to the understanding that there is not doer, i.e., I understand, I remember, etc., but only functions of the inner instrument working on their own with or without the appropriation of these activities. Isnยดt this appropriation or identification of the dreamingยดs mind or Ishawara with the individual what creates samsara, a dream inside Ishwaraยดs dream? This knowledge nullifies both, the individual and its dream and leaves us only with the dreamingยดs mind, Ishwara or God that is true ignorance. How can it be said that it is omniscience? This is a messy.

  12. This Shiva Priya is becoming quite restless and asking more and more meaningless questions as weeks pass by. I guess she doesnโ€™t have the habit of reading the comments of viewers either. Can somebody please let her know that.
