The proliferation of smart phones and advances in digital technologies have paved the way for new avenues of digital creativity that can be placed quite literally in the hands of general public. Augmented reality is at the forefront of this new world and sits alongside a growing push within the art world to break out of and redefine the traditional gallery space.
You Are Here commissioned ACT artist Daniel Savage to bring together an artist, a curator and a digital developer to discuss; what is Augmented Reality? Where does it sit within the art world? How may it be used to reach out to new and diverse audiences? And what potential possibilities is this new medium opening up for creating immersive, interactive, and responsive story telling?
Speakers L-R: Daniel Savage (Emcee), Shannon Pickles (Lightning Rock development studio), Jess Herrington (artist), and Jaklyn Babington (senior curator – National Gallery of Australia)
