OBSERVER EFFECT: Physics, Social Science, SpiderMan and more

VAL-U-PRO CONSULTING GROUP, LLC – SRIKANTH KIDAMBI

In various areas, there is a mention of the term called Observer effect.

In science, it means how our focus towards an observation could itself change the state of the event, also called the Heisenberg effect. There are also other variants of this effect (Egs: Hawthorne, Heisenbug, Observer-Expectancy) in areas such as Social Science, Computer Science, Social Science, Informational Technology and more.

In this spiderman classic video, we can see how the same social event is perceived by others. It also shows how power has the potential to cloud the mind of an individual.

Though sixteen years since the movie came out, intrinsic human traits don’t change much, and it is even more relevant in this social media world to understand how people view the same event differently based on their position in that event.

This video captures the following individuals:
1. Peter Parker – Surprised with his newly acquired power
2. Mary Jane – Concerned and surprised, while also wishing for Parker’s well being
3. Thug – Shocked for being on the other side
4. Bully – Friend of the thug – Seeing the plight of his friend, now playing the victim role
5. The crowd having fun watching the fight
6. Harry Osborn surprised, thrilled, and excited with expectations

What we can learn from this scene:
Be aware and Beware of your actions, and don’t get carried away by the crowd and/or popularity.
