David Chalmers – Physics of Consciousness

Closer To Truth

How to explain our inner awareness that is at once most common and most mysterious? Traditional explanations focus at the level of neuron and neuronal circuits in the brain. But little real progress has motivated some to look much deeper, into the laws of physics — information theory, quantum mechanics, even postulating new laws of physics.

  1. Announcement: there is a virtual photon or wave function that is accumulating a history. Any wave function that accumulates a history cannot be annihilated without reversing it's history in the opposite order. This is how you get spooky life forms.

  2. Wave function collapse once consciousness is introduced. Quantum mechanics collapse too. Do these guys ever study Schrodinger equation before they talked about quantum mechanics?

  3. "I think that our learning to understand quantum theory is kindergarten classes compared to what we will have to grok to comprehend consciousness. Not that it will be some sort of complicated mathematics but some new way of thinking."
    – Nick Herbert

  4. The theory of consciousness and quantum mechanics is easily describe by this equation:
    Consciousness + Quantum Mechanics = (woo woo)^2

The hard problem of consciousness is not to slip into dualism when talking about it. Chalmers has failed to do that. He now freely admits he is a dualist. He calls in it property dualism not substance dualism but both are just as bad. Dualism has never been helpful in understanding the world and it still isn't today. Chalmers and his hard problem have done nothing to further our understanding of the mind, perception or any human ability. Yet many researchers using the standard scientific methods have.

Dualism works well if your a preacher casting out spirits or a philosopher inviting them in.

  5. Something so obvious, but at the same time baffling ?

Consciousness is at the center of my experience, but I can't use my Consciousness to explain how or why I have conscious experiences in the first place. ?

  6. At :53 he mentioned quantum mechanics and consciousness in the same sentence. Deepak Chopra's Law!
It's kind of like Godwin's Law.

  7. I have read a couple of Dr Chalmer's writings and found them substantial, I find I have a hard time digesting his content when its through dialogue. I guess its tough to isolate a momentary perspective on the problems of consciousness.

  8. Robert Lawrence kuhn has been doing such a discussion's since his birth.but i am sure he didn't get anything than money.he is wearing a mask of die hard truthfinder but he is essentially a money maker.

  9. Although the idea sounds ridiculous, yes it seems to be something between consciousness and quantum phenomena that at least deserves attention and careful investigation.

  10. He says nothing, repeats old ideas. How about another panel with Niel Dave! Btw, what's the thing on your head doing? Trying to escape the questions
