'Our circle of sympathy can be expanded through forces of cosmopolitanism' hasn't Robert Putnam's work and other studies shown sympathy, and pro social behavior in general, is reduced in multicultural cosmopolitan cities? This remark for me ultimately scuppers Pinker's whole argument because it shows he is just willing evidence when it goes against his own progressivism.
