In his presentation, Mr. Chopra will discuss the application of Artificial Intelligence/Cognitive Computing to real world business problems. How to create AI-powered computer systems that can sense, learn, and act. The talk covers applying deep question-answering (Deep QA), speech and image recognition and natural language processing (NLP) research to real world problems. How to efficiently combine and customize the best advanced technologies — AI building blocks — to create applications that extract meaningful insights to produce measurable impact. Mr. Chopra will take us through three Cognitive Journeys or use cases to illustrate applying advanced AI research to real world business problems.

Sanjay is the Co-Founder and CEO of Cognistx an applied AI company. Cognistx data scientists and engineers build adaptive artificial intelligence (AI) systems to solve today’s most challenging business problems. They create computer systems that can sense, learn and act. Sanjay is also the Co-Founder & CEO of Intellions, a pricing software company. Intellions is an IP Based Technology Company that has licensed its IP to various entities. Sanjay has over twenty-two years of expertise in e-commerce strategy, business development and technology. Sanjay is the winner of E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year 2000 award and actively participates in promoting entrepreneurship in Pittsburgh. Sanjay was the Founding Chair of Pittsburgh Social Venture Partners and a founding charter member of the TiE Pittsburgh. Anju and Sanjay Chopra have also funded a Research Grant for students at Carnegie Mellon University. Sanjay is on the advisory board of Metacube – a global software development company. Sanjay was the Director of Digital Commerce at Giant Eagle and helped launch Curbside, eAdvantage and the Mobile Apps for Get-Go and Giant Eagle. Prior to that Sanjay was also a Business Development Manager with IBM for 7 years.

Prior to Intellions, Sanjay Chopra was the Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of OnlineChoice.com. OnlineChoice.com has over 600,000 members over ten domains, such as, electricity, natural gas, long distance, local telephone, gasoline, internet access, home security and term life and health insurance. The company was sold to MxEnergy in January of 2003. OnlineChoice was venture backed by Hillman Company, Draper Triangle, Lycos Ventures, and Duquesne Enterprises. Before OnlineChoice Sanjay consulted for Goldman Sachs through Access Data in various strategy and e-commerce projects. Mr. Chopra has also worked as a software engineer/manager at Federated Investors, Carnegie Group and Allegheny Management Company. Mr. Chopra is on the Advisory Board to Metacube – a global IT services company, specializing in cloud computing and product engineering.

Mr. Chopra is an Adjunct Professor of e-Commerce at Carnegie Mellon University and holds an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University (GSIA – Tepper Business School), a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) and Bachelors in Computer Science from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT -REC), Bhopal, India.

Sanjay has been married to Anju Chopra, EVP & CIO, Tiversa for twenty-one years and they have two daughters – Anya and Aiyana. Anya is a freshman at Cornell University and Aiyana attends Pine Richland High School. They reside in Gibsonia, PA. Mr. Chopra is an avid golfer and was a member of the men’s golf committee at Treesdale Country Club.
