A history of modern art in 73 lectures: lecture 67 (Minimalism and related later trends)

solubleshark

This is the second part of the ninth lecture in the course ‘Towards the Global’, which treats art from around 1945 to the present day. This lecture discusses Minimalism and related later “post-Minimalist’ trends. Artists discussed include Martin, Ryman, Marden, Haacke, Turrell, Araeen, Kapoor, Whiteread, Gonzales-Torres, Hirst, Antoni and Bickerton.

If you are new to this lecture sequence you are recommended to start by listening to lecture 1 in the master sequence, which gives a brief overview of the project and shows on screen a listing of all the lectures and their topics. That list may be used as an index to help identify lectures on topics that interest you (use the pause function to read).

The consolidated list of lectures in the course ‘Towards the Global’ which follows below helps give an overview of their individual content, and enables users to find specific lectures that might cover topics they have a particular interest in. Sometimes a topic will be treated over several lectures, in part because sound files often present a two hour session as two one hour segments. Lectures have a number and letter (at the end of their identifying code) identifying their place within this particular course, but they have also been given a number (at the start of their identifying code) to indicate their place within the master sequence of the whole series of lectures.
