AI in 2019

Siraj Raval

2018 has been an eventful year for AI to say the least! We’ve seen advances in generative models, the AlphaGo victory, several data breach scandals, and so much more. I’m going to briefly review AI in 2018 before giving 10 predictions on where the space is going in 2019. Prepare yourself, my predictions range from more Kubernetes infused ML pipelines to the first business use case of generative modeling of 3D worlds. Happy New Year and enjoy!

  1. More jobs? Than we should have today no unemployment? Bro do you think you need after ai revolution more people? Why should we do the revolution? Ok i get it… it’s like by Plans… they flight 90% automated but you need a captain as copilot for the automation and the Copilot is for when the automation and pilot plays piano????

Please don’t the people are not stupid…

In Kopenhagen Subway is automated, do You think they hire more train driver, train driving teachers?

Think in modules, modules can replaced by robots… voila the self building and repairing machines comes…

You need ai , 3D Printer and a Robot arm………..

Ups we are Next like humans like the Movie

    Wall e

  2. 1) All AI and AGI jobs will be around minimum wage in less than three years.

    2) The AI and AGI training are outdated by five years and have already been created by the best.

    3) It’s like asking people to learn to design and build a 1959 car, like if it wasn’t already built over 60 years ago.

    4) To have people go out to sell overly outdated information to companies, knowing full well the AI and the AGI is already fives years outdated.

  3. Siraj, your not African American, at least not by your definition; and why would it be so shocking if you were? Anyway, thanks for such an informative video on AI, glad you didn't mention any doomsday-type scenes of future AI, instead , doing a great job of laying down the practical facts and principles as they unfold. I still think this field is to diverse and young to see a specific trajectory or the flow of it's direction.

  4. On jobs created vs. destroyed:
One common misconception is that innovation can only create jobs in the same sectors it disrupts, i.e. machinery operators, programmers.
Most jobs created by innovation come from increasing productivity and wealth, which liberates resources for people to meet more of their needs. Example: Yoga, massage, comedy or hairdressing are way bigger industries now than they were a century ago, despite not having been disrupted by technology.
90%+ of all people used to work in agriculture, just a few generations ago. The growth of the service sector will continue as the economy becomes more efficient and competitive. The service sector means humans helping each other be happier. If you think do that, don't believe the doomsday narrative of no jobs left after AI.

  5. i don't believe for a second that's the case so they are going to keep the truckdrivin taxi driver bus driver jobs and all the jobs on the side that are affected by automation like hotal works truckstop workers that's a no not to mention all the lawyer jobs account jobs doctor specialist and in the near future all the gas and oil are going down being how we are starting to faze in the electric cars and they don't need gas and oil not to mention we need to retrain these people for education and how long does it take to be a high school teacher four years and good luck getting them to go for that when most of them are living paycheck to paycheck/ healthcare same thing paycheck to paycheck don't have the money not going to pay for it and it's a four year program for a nurse and like 12 to be a doctor/ public sector By educational attainment: 35 percent of the job openings will require at least a bachelor's degree, 30 percent of the job openings will require some college or an associate's degree and 36 percent of the job openings will not require education beyond high school. so do you think most of the people can do little better than read and write that's most of all they can do if you don't use it you lose it so we will have to retrain these people form the start almost like they more than likely have forgotten there algebra and history and social studies and science meaning that 4 years just became 8 years that 12 years just became 16 years and you get it so prepare for riots in the streets as many Americans with families have nowhere to go im talking like 50-55 year old's and 25-49 year olds form the oil and gas and lawyers and accounts its a right mess and i hate your trying to downplay it
