The Chinese state run news agency Xinhua recently revealed the first Artificial Intelligence news anchor. They’re now able to generate video of a newscaster using a model trained on real newscaster data and use it to disseminate information 24/7. When I saw this, I knew it was time to start studying China’s role in the AI revolution in-depth. In this video, I’ll cover China’s power structure, generative adversarial networks, its startup scene, Confucianism, the social credit scoring system, algorithmic policing, surveillance, privacy, autonomous weapons, and convolutional neural networks. A lot of different topics to cover, but I hope this video provides a coherent narrative around the use of AI in China and how it plays into the global AI community. Enjoy!

  1. The best thing the rest of the world can do with regard to the PRC is recognize it as a tumor and ablate it. Or at least render it incapable of metastasis.

    Any thorough study of modern PRC or of historical China reveals the soundness and inevitability of this conclusion.

    China has never been anything other than a slave society, running on torture and fear and murder, and exporting crime and war.

    The PRC will continue to steal all of the world's information, engage in the most aggressive military actions towards all of its neighbors (as it continues to do against India, Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines, etc.) until the beautiful day it is destroyed or conquers the world.

  10. The only problem I have with this video is, you talk about it like the US isn't doing some of these things themselves. The only difference is, they are better at hiding it from the public.

    For example, AI robots being build that could kill people isn't just something China is working on. The US is working on that as well. Your Twitter or Facebook feed being monitored by the government isn't something only China does. The NSA does that as well in the US. And there are many more examples like that. The main difference is, here you can complain about it, because you have the freedom of speech. But besides that, you're still unable to do anything about it.

  11. I used to watch your videos but for this I am quite disappointed. You could just talk about the good things of ai. But saying China government violates human rights make no sense because US to which you compare don't care about human rights there are tremendous examples where human rights are violated by US government than China. And even mentioning communist party makes no sense. US are world wide spymaster compare to China. I really don't understand why you did such video.

  24. at least 40 million people were killed to the communist party take power in china. I think its kind wrong make this parallel with the old governments there. If it wasn't the american money during the clinton management, china wouldn't be this today. I hate the commies. Their killers with no souls. Oh, but this will help this people, yeah, and in how people's head do they just step on the head. China Sucks.

    What china do is basically: Create the most efficient society. Efficient for what ?? To produce for and maintain their government. China government understood that they need the most efficient capitalism. They're just doing it the better way possible. Of course that with better able people, they'll do it better. They're government is not their society. They're a fucking gang that took power lot of years ago, killed at least 40 million people there to this. Of course they created the fear in their society and maintained this till nowadays. It's the most bizarre dictatorship that ever existed. Stalin never dreamed it could be possible. I don't respect this.
