Coffee with a Curator – Amanda Cooper & Peter Rush: “Surrealism and the Exquisite Corpse”
April 6, 2016

Coffee with a Curator is a focused, theme-oriented presentation on a variety of Dali-related topics. The talk is presented by one of the Dali Museum’s Curatorial/Education team or an invited speaker.

For this talk, Peter Tush, Curator of Education at The Dali, will open with a background on Surrealism and the Exquisite Corpse. Following, Amanda Cooper, Curator of Exhibitions at the Morean Arts Center, will present The Exquisite Porch exhibition at the Morean Arts Center, showing from March 12-May 1, 2016. Their exhibit will be a swampy, creepy-crawly spin on the Surrealist parlor game Exquisite Corpse, focusing on the ground-dwelling wildlife of Florida. Artist, writer and independent curator, D. Dominick Lombardi, selected artists from the New York City area and Amanda Cooper selected artists from Central Florida to create drawings which reference “things that go bump in the night.” The results, over 70 separate pieces in all, will be combined and displayed at the Morean, raising awareness of the history of the game, its relevance to contemporary art, and celebrating the fauna of the Sunshine State.
