Are you the only conscious mind? Solipsism crazy implications.

Arvin Ash

Are you the only conscious mind? Are you the one? Does the universe revolve around you? Solipsism philosophy is scary. The science of Solipsism is presented here. From your point of view, the only sentience you have is your own. You can’t know or perceive whether anyone else is really conscious. What if they aren’t? What if you’re the only one? Everyone could be a philosophical zombie. This is the essence of Solipsism.

What do you really see when you look in the mirror. A scientist might say that when you look through your eyes, packets of electromagnetic radiation, called photons enter the pupil of your eye, get focused by a lens, hit your retina and trigger electrical signals in your optic nerve, that travels to the LGN, then to visual cortex in the back of your brain, where it gets interpreted and is made available to your consciousness which may be located according to recent studies in a tiny area of the brainstem called pontine tegmentum and 2 small areas of the cerebral cortex connected to it.

A philosopher might say that the you are the consciousness behind your eyes. The you is your awareness of yourself and your surroundings, and your place in the universe.

A Solipsist believes that she is the consciousness behind her eyes, but the difference is she believes she is the ONLY consciousness. She believes that only her consciousness is fundamental in the universe in which she resides. Is there any irrefutable proof of anything other than the existence of yourself? If that is the case then is it rational to assume that anything else actually exists?

According to information theory, a closed system cannot generate something more complex than itself. But the universe is more complicated than you. How would you explain the fact that other people, whom you don’t think exist came up with the laws that explain your world? But maybe this complexity is part of the illusion too. Science doesn’t claim to know the ultimate reality. But even if it did, if everything is an illusion, then science can only tell us what is true within that illusion.

Science treats reality as a foundation; the universe exists apart from our own mind and senses. It says that we going to see the same things whether we’re in a subjective or objective reality. Most scientist will say that it is objective. But science only assumes that objective reality exists.

But a paper published in 2019, by Massimiliano Proietti at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, this research seems to indicate that at the quantum level, two different realities could both be correct, suggesting that an objective reality may not actually exist.

If reality is subjective, could it all be a simulation, like in the movie the Matrix? But if we are living in a simulation, then everything is an illusion including what you know as you. The simulation can simulate consciousness in at least one of its characters – you.

But why would the simulation only simulate one conscious character out of billions – maybe to save memory space? But this would not make sense because then you would have to create a separate world for every conscious creature that you are simulating. This would increase the memory requirement.

Maybe advanced beings want to test the theory of Solipsism in a simulation? But what would be the purpose of that?

One question that even solipsists have to ask themselves is, “Are you even conscious?” Scientists cannot solve the problem because there is no such thing as “consciousness detector.” There is no objective measurement of consciousness. If there was, we could settle this question. This could be easily solvable in the future, some estimate that we will achieve this within 30 years. Once you can go inside my brain, you will know of sure whether I am conscious or not.

But what is consciousness? Can AIs be conscious? In many cases they are smarter than us. If we ask an AI of the future, he might say he is conscious. How will we know for sure? Their behaviors are also determined by the firing of electromagnetic signals inside a central processor. So are humans. Our processor is called the brain.

We all live in our own subjective realities. Our realities all interact and we are able to independently observe the same things. Shouldn’t that mean that we are all part of the same reality?

A Solipsist will say, not necessarily, because you could be a figment of my imagination, or maybe nobody exists and everything is imaginary. You think, therefore you are. You do not know if anyone else really thinks, and therefore you cannot know whether they are.
#solipsism

Solipsism is not disprovable. But this does not make it true. You could argue that solipsism is completely useless because it cannot be disproven, and it doesn’t give you much in the way of making your life better. But its uselessness does not make it false. Note that Solipsism is not synonymous with Narcissism.

  1. avorion video game procedurally generates each star system you goto and once you leave its on for 5 minutes inc ase you come back its there….if this were applied then you could be off when im not looking at you and does that sound familiar ….

  2. I believe that consciousness revolves around a written word, the word is not important but the fact that one can focus on a written word gives enlightenment to the person that write these words.
The person that does the writing we'll call God, and it's a wish I have that is to understand the meaning of the read word.
Call it a collective consciousness, but if we the human race can focus and understand the meaning of the written word, it is then a mountain will be moved. Don't get me wrong, but one mind in focus is good, but a thousand minds in focus, understanding the present meaning of being in focus, will force the word, into a new meaning to it's creator?

  3. If we lived in a universe of super determinism it could mean there is only one conciseness. You could die and be reborn as Einstein and the only thing that would happen is you or I would be aware of Einstein’s thoughts feelings emotions and sensations looking out of his eyes. Or reborn as Hitler. No possibility of a change. Our bodies and thoughts feelings emotions and sensations are part of the environment. We can’t choose anything.

  4. Yea i once wondered if my brain and eye is like FPS games, it only renders what my eyes could see and everything outside my view is all only information and calculations.. but i quickly shrugged it off

  5. We have an "objective world" at a macro level, while that world is influenced by "subjective worlds" of many individuals in that world, so the creation of the world is in part the creation of the collective subjective ones. OTOH, it is confusing to realize other people live in a different "subjective world" and that opens crazy-making when you find out how they see certain things completely differently, and we get angry and want to know what is real. In such moments you may recognize your own subjective world has been created in your own mind, and doesn't represent what is objectively true. So maybe we could say its not that Solipsism says "I'm the only real person", but that "I see things as they really are."

Whatever happens around you, don’t take it personally… Nothing other people do is because of you. It is because of themselves. All people live in their own dream, in their own mind; they are in a completely different world from the one we live in. When we take something personally, we make the assumption that they know what is in our world, and we try to impose our world on their world.

  6. I am the only conscious mind and everything happens for me. All of you basically work for me and aren’t even real; just extras in MY movie. Lol peasants

  7. Why does he say that thinking is the proof that you exist? You can exist without thinking, i.e., in a meditative state for instance.

  8. I went up to the narcissist I know and slapped her, hard too, it felt wonderful.
    I subsequently got arrested.
I told the police, "None of you exist anyways, what's the big deal?"
He said, "Maybe you're right, and none of us exist. But I'll tell you one thing, these handcuffs exist, don't they?" (He then tightened them until my fingers turned blue.)

  9. The ability to feel is all it takes. Ancient yogis of India and monks of the east used meditation to extend their consciousness / senses to other bodies before they died, so they could live endlessly through others.

  10. My current character has nearly half a million gaming hours in this reality. I've really gotta get outta my sub Conscience Basement.

  11. It is obvious to me , we are part of a computer game .The dinosaurs , the ice age, egyptians , greeks , romans the middle ages, everything seems to run in sequence ,with some lap over .

  12. I've often wondered if, when I die, this entire universe will cease to exist. This would logically mean that nobody will even know that I'm gone, not even my loved ones, since they won't exist either.

  13. I think we must first examine our general mindset and ponder the assumption that we already exist in a simulation ie. (matter,time/space, the self, and free will being an Illusion) and consider there is no "I" in an already existing singularity only unlimited potentiality. we only see the linear progression from ; perfect symmetry to broken symmetry through a series of singularities back to perfect symmetry this process is the ultimate charity of our existence.

  14. It's interesting how all of us humans still exist on a similar thought level. There're so many of us who question ourselves and everything else, everyone else are robots or aliens or just imagined beings. I'm just gonna accept the fact that we're all somehow equally philosophical to some degree.

  15. When we humans are stuck in our personal mind there is as many ideas of everything as it is people on earth! Do animals thinks they are in a solipsistic world? No, I think they just eats and are just happy of not having solipsistic thoughts! As a musician and buddhist I beleive we are downloaded from one devine conciousness but have our ”single” part (like a limitied wave in an infinity ocean) of that and therefore we can see the same world because we are one and the same conciousness. Not similar but the SAME! We don’t share the ”same world” but the same conciousness. ”One conciousness but seven billion worlds”. Look at the teachings of Advaita Vedanta for more insight of this topic. We perceive the same world because we came (are downloaded) from the same dimensionless source of LOVE and BEAUTY. That source is the devine (call it God if you are a beleiver or the source or whatever you like if you are an atheist or something between). We can also think as Lord Buddha said: ”You become what you think, so don’t think… just BE” … and see your own infinitive reality within Yourself in the present now. We live in a universe, but the universe lives in a dimensionless conciousness of pure knowing! At least, think about it! Take care and Namaste🙏🙋‍♂️(Besides, I love this channel because it is creative for the single mind, whatever a mind exists or not. Don’t worry=be happy🌹😀)
