Artificial intelligence and its ethics | DW Documentary

DW Documentary

Are we facing a golden digital age or will robots soon run the world? We need to establish ethical standards in dealing with artificial intelligence – and to answer the question: What still makes us as human beings unique?

Mankind is still decades away from self-learning machines that are as intelligent as humans. But already today, chatbots, robots, digital assistants and other artificially intelligent entities exist that can emulate certain human abilities. Scientists and AI experts agree that we are in a race against time: we need to establish ethical guidelines before technology catches up with us. While AI Professor Jürgen Schmidhuber predicts artificial intelligence will be able to control robotic factories in space, the Swedish-American physicist Max Tegmark warns against a totalitarian AI surveillance state, and the philosopher Thomas Metzinger predicts a deadly AI arms race. But Metzinger also believes that Europe in particular can play a pioneering role on the threshold of this new era: creating a binding international code of ethics.

  1. Don't need automated politicians, we need a distributed network of automated judges that will enforce the law through giving the right to confiscate of stolen assets or other assets of its value to compensate to the victim of a crime. This will allow the savage (heathen) to be judged and forced to become civilized (human).

  2. When AI understands how wreckless, selfish, controlling, and greedy, we are as humans they will reasons for no need of humans and we with out doubt will most certainly have engineered ourselves out existence. Hello Skynet, Hasta Vista Baby..

  3. Wow, so confirming the sad and endless rituals, procedures and superficial nonsense that is female 'appearance enhancement'. Beauty routines essentially. So so very sad and VERY lame. As a male, most will agree they are not impressed that GOOGLE whatever AI can successfully imitate a human moron. Many turin successful fooled the human were using the strategy of Inserting the work 'like' between every third pronoun. It was shown to work on 99% of millenial girls.

  4. Current legal investigatory reports demonstrate that here was no Russian Collusion with the Election. Whatever it was it had no effect on anything. When the reporter is biased it only causes people to "change the channel." In discussing investigations you should use the term "alleged" to not mistake fiction from fact. Hope you didn't make other similar errors in your AI report.

  5. I would rather have a robot interacting with me than a mean abusive caregiver. Robots don't have bad days like people do. I say the sooner the better. You will simply be caring for yourself. Self care will just be bumped up a notch. I have seen it happen through out my life. You become more independent and self taught.

  6. I always tend to go to the comments first. A lot of people are commenting on a guy marrying a hologram. Watch the video slaughterbots. Think people. Where are we really going with this? Think for yourself Don't worry about a guy marrying a hologram. Think of what could come

  7. I'd give anything to be seen by a non judgmental machine. I've been living in with pretty severe pain for around 15 years and no matter how hard I try, they won't believe me. I don't want drugs, I want answers and salutations but the way things are these days they suspect everyone is trying to get pills, if I want pills, I can buy them off the streets all day. It's the dope heads making it impossible for people that truly need help. I have zero history of drug abuse, barely took drugs after giving birth four times and when I broke my foot or had a broken rib or even the time I tripped over my own foot, broke both arms and ended up with stitches in my knee, no drugs. Like, when I say I'm in pain, I'm in pain

  8. So the Japanese fellow couldn't handle rejection and psychologically impaired when dealing with people. Perhaps solution is cultural change rathrr than total disassociation with human. He should move to Middle East where loved ones pick who they should marry … or derivative thereof.

  9. The problem is humanity has already lost control and we are skiddung to unknown. GOOGLE owns your information and can manipulate you into buying, forming opinion that you may not have preferred or is counterproductive (2016 election). With AI the machine uses neural networks to make you do things you dont want progressively more. The machine can iterate and do what select few wants us to do to further their personal goals.
So future is more like Zombieland not this fairytale land.
