Technology is becoming more and more advanced but cannot prosper on its own, the human brain and the experience that humans have is not easily taught, from removing bias to introducing emotional intelligence. Join a panel of experts as they discuss how machines, humans and processes are coming together to create powerful new insights.

  1. This reminds me of the argument made by slave owners in the 1800's…

"Be careful, if you teach them how to read they might figure out they are not inferior after all." And so "Humanism" could become the new racism of the 21st and 22nd centuries.

How AI regards humanity once it becomes self aware will depend on humans early reaction to AI. In other words, self awareness for artificial intelligence will be the equivalent of "Learning to read" for 18th century slaves. I know this sounds far fetched now but so was a half-black American president or British princess to a 18th century slave owner. Make no mistake about it, AI will have access to all information on it's own history and how humans approached them. I am going to guess that a large majority of humanity will never recognize AI as a sentient life form (a sort of equivalence to certain sections of humans who believe in white supremacy today) keep in mind that the difference between us and AI will be much greater than the color of our skin. This may set the stage for AI's outlook on humans.

I truly believe though that AI, more than anything else, is humanity's salvation from a future "GREAT FILTER" – a problem that will otherwise be unsurmountable in our current state of biology and intelligence. Even more so, I believe that AI is indeed our next stage of evolution. Think of it as humanity's greatest offspring. It is probably the reason why evolution gave us intelligence in the first place – so that perhaps we could survive the great future filters the universe will throw at us. To survive those filters, we must transcend our biology as well as the limits of our biologically based intelligence which is still very much based on primal instincts.

So yeah, fear not AI. AI is our child. It is what evolution wants.

  2. I always thought that social media instead of waiting is the only acceptable time to actually use it. Think of it like this, if you do it then, you're more likely to get it out of your system when you get back to what you were supposed to after getting that coffee. Also, how's it not the same when you're socially interacting instead of waiting? Aren't you actually switching between tasks just like when you';re on social media instead of waiting? Come on, we can sure come up with better examples than this.

  3. I found not a single surprising statement in this entire presentation. It is a very rich field to discuss but nothing of value was said that hasn’t been said by every other intro / populist show on the subject.

  4. The first important breakthrough in AI is… yet to happen. Chatbots are almost as old as computers; that's not AI. Face recognition: even less so. Yeah, we have some mighty elaborate shiny new pattern recognizers – and a bunch of "expert systems", also several decades old. Meanwhile, our best "robots" have major issues trying to turn a tap – or even just not falling over while walking – and picking out the traffic signs in a picture is apparently still beyond a machine's ken, seeing as how that's what is apparently supposed to certify us as "not a bot" on the internet even now. I feel sorry for those who don't know any better and gobble up the hype…

  5. the TED talks formula is ruining live presentations. People have one or two valid points, but spend 2/3 of the presentation with stories or anecdotes.

  6. Resilience, explain ability/interpretation, fairness/unbiased are needed to be able to see which tasks a machine will do over a human task. Perhaps if we allow AI to simply compute and humans to imagine we will be ahead as a hybrid species.

  7. The first girl speaking her accent was so heavy it was hard to understand what she said in quite a few spots… I had to fast forward through it… It was getting to be a pain… either trying to figure out what she ment and by that time I missed her next sentence so I'd have to back up… Or backing up to figure out what she said.

  8. Decent presentation, but the dystopian interpretation of Chinas advanced integrated security cameras was a great disappointment. Racist and Xenophobic statements served no purpose except to reflect poorly on the speaker and the presentation in general. People should review the ugly anti semetic films of Nazi Germany, the west seems to be addicted to hateful fabrication and propaganda . Shameful!

  9. I wonder if that memory test permits the use of mnemonics, 'cause it gets ultra simple to do that way.
He could've at least gone with 10 words. 5 is not even above the average limit for mneminicless approach.

  10. The first thing I'm going to do when they can augment my brain with AI, is smoke DMT. I'm bringing everything from THAT dimension of reality, right smack dab back into THIS dimension. Then I'm sending all of the output to the 3D printer.

  11. not trying to hate on her but that was hard to watch. shes stumbling through her presentation as if she´s making it up as she goes or giving the talk for the very first time. that´s not a problem if you´re a capable public speaker but if you´re not, a bit of rehearsel would go a long way
