Biblical Series I: Introduction to the Idea of God

Jordan B Peterson

Lecture I in my Psychological Significance of the Biblical Stories series from May 16th at Isabel Bader Theatre in Toronto. In this lecture, I describe what I consider to be the idea of God, which is at least partly the notion of sovereignty and power, divorced from any concrete sovereign or particular, individual person of power. I also suggest that God, as Father, is something akin to the spirit or pattern inherent in the human hierarchy of authority, which is based in turn on the dominance hierarchies characterizing animals.

  1. Dr. Peterson: IMHO you are one of the greatest philosophers and psychologists of our era. Blessings upon your House, Love to Tammy and Mikaela and her child.

  2. I admire your passion Mr Peterson! Your body language and manner of speaking is full of such intense fervour. I can feel the weight of your words through the screen and it’s like you’re passing it to me directly.

  3. It’s interesting and kind of sad that while Dr. Peterson is mostly such an objective thinker, he still takes Darwinian evolutionary theory as a scientific given.
It’s anything about that. It’s a theory, but certainly not proven fact.

  4. Jordan keeps saying "God only knows why" through out his lecture. And as a Christian all I can think each time is, 'Yes Jordan, God, only knows why" 🙂

  5. Most of what he said has next to nothing to do with the Bible and it's contents… He is a smart psychologist, but seems to appeal to the audience

  6. This man Dr. Peterson is brilliant. I have a question: How does a man become so wise and knowledgeable, so intelligent?
I would think it would take MANY lifetimes to achieve such intellect. A remarkable and fascination man.

  7. Am I the only person that listens to Peterson and take in every word thinking that makes sense etc but at the end of hes talks my brain is so relaxed I cant remember anything he said. Its really strange to me as normally I can listen to someone talk for say an hour and basically repeat what they said for most of that time but as I said for some reason Peterson relaxes my brain so much I could not tell you what iv just listened to apart from it had to do with religion and dreams. I really hope Peterson goes down in history as one of the greats. Hes like the rock star of psychology. Hes sense of humour and passion make it all the better.

  8. JP is so intelligent. Just wish that he would pause more often, and slow down his speech so that his superlative analysis can sink into my lesser brain. I have to keep replaying succinct statements to understand them fully.
