On May 11th of 2012 Mick & Mairead Philpott and friend Paul Mosley set fire to the Philpott residence with a plan of “rescuing” the children to help build credibility during a custody battle. Five children passed at the scene, while the oldest later passed in the hospital. The parents and friend were later arrested and charged with murder. In December 2012 their charges were downgraded to manslaughter. On April 2nd of 2013, Mick Philpott and Paul Mosley were found guilty by unanimous verdicts, while Mairead Philpott was found guilty by majority verdict.
