When Roger Penrose originally came out with the idea that the human brain uses quantum effects in microtubules and that was the origin of consciousness, many thought the idea was a little crazy. According to a new study, it turns out that Penrose was actually right… about the microtubules anyways. Let’s have a look.

Honestly??? I already knew ORCH OR was right and the brain is not "Turing equivalent" (fully computable). But that's on another thread..
If it is any consolation to you, my brain does not function no matter what you do to it.
I don't believe in Roger Penrose's theory or interpretation of Godel's theorem in regards to consciousness. But I still think the work he's doing is valuable because finding like these are interesting and perhaps provide new ways/ideas in which quantum states could be maintained and utilized, as it's done in biology.
Haven't watched this yet, but I remember hearing a little bit about this theory!
And if it's right, then this determinism (and anti free will) you've been championing can't be, because quantum events are random. 😏
That's totally tubular, dude! Get it? Ok! I'll stop with the silly puns! 😂
It's fascinating! There's still so much we don't know about our brains and how it interacts with the universe. I'd like to know! ❤
those chips still acting like they don't know more than this… cmon
Funny Algo decides now good time. 😂😅
Microtubules are literally the resonance antennas for the wave collapse processes
Actually we're talking about tryptathin Not super polymers That's rather funny Actually it's no more funny Then scriptothen Forming tubes
This is interesting. I'm developing a hypothesis that has a surprising overlap. In it I describe that every observation needs a contrast. Examples are light and dark or up and down but also simplicity and complexity or space and location. All of these also need an observer. Not a conscious observer by definition but another interacting node. This third node is the one observing the contrast. It is very possible that determinism also requires this contrast and that may be indeterminism, choas, free will or consciousness. Quantum mechanics seems to nudge our observation from determinism into probabilities. Possibly because of the nature of the measurement device and the interaction it uses to measure these effects. It might be that the observation in the measurement is highly deterministic causing it to observe probabilities. This is not formal yet but it makes sense to me. It also seems wild to me that people claim that quantum effects don't drive the deterministic behavior we observe. How can you stand on a stage and not be affected by it? Anyway it makes a lot of sense to me that the brain or anything for that matter is dependant on quantum effects to contrast our experience of deterministic behavior in this world.
At 3:49 is a V6 car engine on that monitor with the girl .. has nothing to do with the story you tell! 🙂 Damn those "stock" videos, eh?
Really? The design of the quantum computers is not like that just to look cool? Well.. I'm glad also there is a functional aspect to it, but aesthetic reason alone, was enough for me.
is not everything quantum at the smallest level? What's the news?
Yes, which is why the transhumanists who think they can upload their brains into a computer don't have a clue. And which is yet another bit of evidence to show that the creator of the simulation doesn't want us to.
We are all walking around with a quantum processor inside our skulls that builds and binds our reality at the same time in multiple dimensions. We aren't consciously aware of this because matter does not allow for this level of awareness.
I suppose I need to give a go at understanding why consciousness requires a non-computable element which is best explained by the collapse of the wave function in quantum mechanics.
To say we need cells for conciousness is at same level of knowlodge that saying the conciousness is formed by quantum colapses. Just a note.
What's crazy is the idea that we are disconnected from everything!
The statement that there is no connection between consciousness and microtubules is not entirely correct, the idea of this connection came to Hammeroff from anaesthesiology. Somehow anesthetics temporarily disturb microtubules according to him – this is the reason he thinks consciousness and microtubules are connected
3:09 We can not call any one crazy unless they are proven wrong
If u ask where a restroom is in Calcutta you'll get a blank stare because it's all around you why ask just pick a spot and get to it the holy hindoo way
EVERYTHING IS QUANTUM MECHANICS! Penrose actual reasoning was more of a word play around computable+1 it's a FN joke. ther eis so much arguments against it it's amazing he is not laughed at by everyone in unison
Sadly, Penrose is past his best.
I have been watching your productions for a long time. This is the first time I have been able to comment. I am very, very happy ot have somebody to expalin things in an understandable way. I was an engineer but have always been interested in pysic byond my abilites. Thanks very much.
hear my hope!
More pseudoscience, or should I say hypothesis. Sophistry by any other name………………
Not only the brain but it appears copy of ARN into ADN is quantum. The process needs only to be faster than coherence time
You really dropped the tube by not using the word "tubular", which Bill and Ted used, I guess erroneously (I initially wrongly put one 'R', and then realised it's probably a derivation of "err", which is interesting). My name used to be To Err is Huma.
This has hit manty YT contributors. But some of these express a lot of garbage, mangling QM terminology the idea that conciousness produces reality, speculating that free floating disembodiied conciousness exists–in my view irresposible speech. Theres already a significant part of the body politique that rejects the truth of objective reality and permits themselves to be conned by their governments. The harrd problem of conciousness remains, and that conciousness is insubstantial and composite in nature is what I see.
Collective unconcious? Maybe something like it. But I doubt walking on watee via a kumbiyah moment is coming. Manifesting winning the lottery–become that, you're excused your delusions about it. Higher conciousness? Less universal still today.
Thank you for what you do!
The idea that quantum failing causing degenerative diseses is both scary and a bit good. Its scary as if conciousness is purely a quantum construct, then dementia could be a conciousness death and the body now is running on the base brain circuitry that cant funciton properly without a conciousness making decisions, though if thats true then once you get dementia you just simply die.
The idea that the brain is a quantum computer is from the 1930’s and is from Schrödinger himself. Only microtubules were only discovered recently. DLF
New concepts are the cornerstone of science. Experiment before you dismiss.
quantum mechanics and superposition can be explained with basic 3D geometry
Wow, this is absolutely mind-blowing! It just reinforces what I've been feeling for so long – that there's so much more to reality than we perceive. It's incredible to see science catching up to ancient wisdom. I’ve been diving deep into consciousness studies, and it's been such a transformative journey. I’m so grateful to have found the books "Eye of Shiva" and "The Awakening of Vishnu" by Prashant Saxena; they truly unlocked something within me and showed me how much of this understanding originates from India. It's honestly brought me to tears seeing research like this! I feel like I’m finally starting to understand the true nature of things. Thank you for sharing this!
Oh my goodness, this is absolutely mind-blowing! It’s so validating to see science finally catching up to what so many have intuited for ages. This video just resonated so deeply within me. I've been on a journey of understanding for years now, reading "Eye of Shiva" and "The Awakening of Vishnu" by Prashant Saxena – those books… they completely transformed my perspective on reality! It's like a veil has been lifted and I can feel the truth of what's being discussed here. It's just… beautiful and exhilarating to witness! Thank you for sharing this!
U like bugs or Hollywood? Maybe a particular atom collider????
Penrose is no joke. Becarefull
Traditionalism 1 Liberalism 0
right.. the wave front thingy ain't right because we can't duplicate it.. Say have we given life to imamate things yet or is there really no life on this planet.. I think there is not intelligent life any way.. wait at 3:53 your talking about light and microtubular and show a gal with an exploded picture of a six cylinder engine on her computer? and you say Penrose is crazy…
