In this conversation with the brilliant Dr. Donald Hoffman, we question whether space-time and the world we experience with our senses is fundamental or merely a shallow projection of something deeper. Drawing on Plato’s cave, physics, cognitive science, mystical traditions, quantum theory, and Hoffman’s own framework of conscious agents, we explore the possibility that reality emerges from consciousness rather than the other way around. Why is everyone so gungho to believe nothing is real. Basically what your saying is nothing you have done, doing or will ever do is meaningless and isn't real to begin with. So I guess my question is if nothing is real and everything is nothing more than a simulation. Than what's the point in anything? Why even keep going if nothing is real?

The Platonists probably made it to this level, but may not have realized

• Yes — the bacteria are probably more “intelligent” too, not just the insects. (There are similar perspectives in many indigenous traditions.)

I don't buy Hoffman's 'there's no objective, material reality and everything we see, hear, smell, touch, taste is rendered in the moment' theory.
For example: I enter a room which someone I've never met or seen has recently vacated. They were wearing a strong perfume the smell of which still lingers in the air. How then am I capable of rendering a sensory experience for which I had no previous context? That would seem to me absurdly random. Evidently my nose is picking up SOMETHING totally external to any expectations or preconceptions I might have.
