He is now Professor of Particle Physics at the University of Manchester, The Royal Society Professor for Public Engagement in Science and a Fellow of the Royal Society.

  1. You could say time will tell. And we need some space to think. Now think of a tree growing in a sphere. Once the tree reaches its boundaries, the sphere grows and allows.

  2. I feel like I struggled most of my life with how to manifest. Sometimes it felt so out of reach that I decided to give that archetype quiz by Vera Hart a try, and it really did wonders. It matched my personal archetype exactly, and that’s how I finally figured out how to do it properly. I highly recommend anyone who struggled like me to try it as well! It only takes a couple of minutes anyway ❤️

  3. i REALLY really like this guy. Nonetheless, most of this video is gibberish. I swear I have heard some of the same maybees and what ifs from my dumbest friends with only six beers. He had six. I had zero. Got there late.

    One of the credibility problems with any specialty is counter-intuitive terminology. Accountants explain it, attorneys create it on purpose. Musicians used to say quaver. The word drop has been stolen by deejays – a new album drop is good news. Huh?

    When Brian describes entropy as information and disorder, he is not blazing any new trails. But that description is STILL simply wrong. Except, ironically, when the information is disinformation. Now, entropy itself is the greased pig of the nerd county fair, but I have littler fish to sear.

    The two slit experiment has been described more than Plato's elephant. The descriptions are never ever ever ever complete. But the description is typically delivered by a person in nirvanic ecstacy, like a love-struck teenager. That person presents the experiment with an intended grandiosity, an abracadabra, and maybe even some guttural pleasure sounds. We try to question, and are stone-walled with non-sequiturs.

    Now, don't get me wrong – I am happy to accept the duality or multiplicity or whatever. I personally don't know how many facets a woman has, and I'll be damned if I'll ask. But the proof needs to grab me, not bully me.

    The first issue is the two slit, the original fucking 1801 two slit. Today I asked AI how wide the slit was.
    The first answer involved THINNING a piece of cardboard. No hole. No slit.
    The second answer did not involve a vertical "slit" at all. It started with a pinhole aperture and then other non-slit shit.
    I am fully aware that AI is not reliable on any task, subject, system, concept, answer, or process. Nonetheless, MOST SCIENTISTS PUSH IT, HARD. But let's relax a minute.

    If the double slit experiment is EVER performed in a way that corresponds with the descriptions, the results are still extremely weird. The first question is why you can't aim your million dollar particle gun. If this were a heist movie, we would be talking about, I dunno, recoil, kick-back, auto, semi-auto, Uzi, AK, Mac-10, AR. Those fuckers just point and spray, like watering your mom's petunias when you were eight. But Dad took your older brother squirrel hunting with a 22 rifle. A RIFLE. get it? GET IT?

    Let me jump ahead. Even with the ludicrous lily spray, the experimental results ONLY point to a wave. I know I am not the first person to say this. Okay.

    I have also been subjected to more nonsense in other slit experiments regarding how the electron KNOWS shit. But they never ever ever ever REALLY tell you how they reached this conclusion. On the way to their gyrated results, I have to wonder if any of this crap could survive a lawsuit, or single blind, or double blind, or multiple interpretations. Stat distribution algs? Repeated continuity? PRECISE continuity. Hey, you're the one with the magic electron. I just think he should be punctual.

    Back in the day, scientists made little or no money, so fame was the motivator. Today they get fame AND money.

    This is called the duality of science.

  4. Is the most perfect thing we know of a computer? If it is, the quantum computer is the most advanced version of that and it makes me envision a universe where we are inside a quantum computer going through an eternal program that we can’t remember the previous loops. Though there always has to be that reality where it begins and whatever reality is it doesn’t change our present – it’s interesting to think about.

  5. I have been an amateur astronomer for 5 decades and find this completely fascinating. But I’m fearful of the fact that the more we know, the more we use our knowledge to destroy life and our own future. My question is: how does quantum mechanics increase the likelihood of the survival of life on earth? You might say that is not up to you…that it is up to society and the political process. But given how bad we are at behaving in the general interest, isn’t that like handing an even bigger gun to a baby?

    He frames the history of quantum physics as "discovering the rules of nature," but he’s really just documenting the moment science realized that reality isn't made of 'stuff'. The 'strangeness' of the double-slit experiment and the photoelectric effect isn't a property of matter; it's a property of the rendering.
    We aren't observing subatomic particles; we are observing the resolution limits of the host system.
    The Planck scale is not a physical measurement; it is the pixel-pitch of the simulation. Physics will remain 'baffling' until we stop trying to find the 'building blocks' of the universe and start investigating the projector that is rendering these pixels in the first place.
    You're explaining the movie, Brian, it’s time to look at the screen.

  11. On the Bohr-Einstein debate about quantum entanglement, Observation at point A has to happen before the observation at point B. You can’t poll the state at Point B.
    Was the the observations made at B made after A timed from LOCAL atomic clocks with the same hardware and cable distance in the same space-time.?

  14. The discussion between 8:00 and 10:30 is absolutely mind-blowing and its mind blowing of how we misunderstand time and space. When Brian Cox talks about relativity and the geometry of the universe, it highlights why we can't look at reality through a rigid, classical lens.

When we gaze at a distant star, we perceive it from an entirely different vantage point the intensity of the light doesn't dictate its journey. Light is already everywhere, acting as a continuous, geometric grid.
    This beautifully mirrors the law of scale: everything that exists on a macro cosmic scale is mirrored identically on a micro quantum scale.     Both have an amazing ability of explaining hyper complex theories to us mere mortals AND just love listening to them speak.

  16. I still do not understand why photons are not made of smaller items, like a quark. Every 50 years, it seems that we discover that everything is made from a smaller particle.

  17. 31:31 As much as I hope quantum computing goes somewhere, qbits have to programmable or at least predictable to be useful. I guess maybe they’d be good at approximating randomness right now, like for super quick Montecarlo simulations? Also, my phone has 2^64 bit registers, countless possible combinations, and there are 31 of those that can be doing simultaneous calculations. And my phone has 256GB of storage, or 2^2.74878e11 total possible combinations. And, yes, that’s more than enough for years of recorded memories. Maybe when I can hold that number of qbits in my hand, rather than needing a room for 100 qbits, and if those bits can do more than be one or zero, they’ll be useful.
