Brooklyn 4K – Million Dollar Brownstone Drive

Brooklyn Heights is an affluent residential neighborhood within the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Brooklyn is the most populous borough of New York City, with a census-estimated 2.6 million residents in 2017. In the first decades of the 21st century, Brooklyn has experienced a renaissance as an avant garde destination for hipsters, with concomitant gentrification, dramatic house price increases, and a decrease in housing affordability. Since 2010, Brooklyn has evolved into a thriving hub of entrepreneurship and high technology startup firms, and of postmodern art and design.

The neighborhood is noted for its low-rise architecture and its many brownstone rowhouses.

Architecture and Places of Interest
Brooklyn Heights was the first neighborhood protected by the 1965 Landmarks Preservation Law of New York City. The neighborhood is largely composed of blocks of picturesque rowhouses and a few mansions. A great range of architectural styles is represented, including Greek Revival, Italianate, Second Empire, Victorian Gothic, Romanesque, Neo-Grec, and Classical Revival, as well as a few 2/1/2-story late Federal houses from the early 19th century in the northern part of the neighborhood. Some houses were constructed of brick, but the dominant building material was brownstone or “Jersey freestone”, a reddish-brown stone from Passaic County, New Jersey

Directly across the East River from Manhattan and connected to it by subways and regular ferry service, Brooklyn Heights is also easily accessible from Downtown Brooklyn. The neighborhood stretches from Old Fulton Street near the Brooklyn Bridge south to Atlantic Avenue and from the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway to Court Street and Cadman Plaza West. Adjacent neighborhoods are Dumbo, Downtown Brooklyn, Cobble Hill, and Boerum Hill. Columbia Heights, an upscale six-block-long street next to the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, is sometimes considered to be its own neighborhood.

  1. J Utah I recommend Park Slope in Brooklyn it's even more beautiful than Brooklyn Heights 😉 Recommended: the named streets. Eg President, Berkeley, Union. It's like London's Notting Hill.

Also of course Beacon Hill in Boston is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the country. I love tree lined neighborhoods. So Park Slope, Back Bay, Beacon Hill are beautiful. My favorite video you've done is driving around Georgetown in Washington DC. I love historic neighborhoods like that.

  2. I love your videos ………. I have a request if it is possible to make a video of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and its surroundings……

  3. I just discovered your channel and thumbed through some of your videos. They are beautiful and impressive. Your notes in the descriptions were interesting and helpful. I can't wait to watch all your videos. Thanks.

  4. I showed this video to a friend of mine who grew up in Brooklyn but moved out to Denver in 1976. It brought back many fond memories and he noted the service you're providing by documenting these cities at a distinct point in time. i suspect your work will be viewed by researchers and urban planners far into the future.

  5. Love watching your videos. Traveling with you is a pleasure. ?Why does New York have all those construction awnings now over sidewalks thru out the city? It seems to me it would be obscuring the views of the store fronts from passerbys. It really takes away the beauty of this city. Thanks for taking me along for the ride. Safe travels and driving for you. I couldn't drive thru that mess I surely would've hit someone the way it is there. But like that everywhere now. God bless

  6. Most the people walking around are normal weight. Most also probably don't own a car. I wonder if driving everywhere is what is really making the majority of Americans fat.

  7. Always an awesome experience by tremendous videos… So much history, a great culture as well.
God bless America. Hope US keep leading the western as worldwide number one. The whole civilization depends on it.
    Regards from Brazil. Cheers!

  8. yes beautiful and soothes the eyes. unfortunately, not practical enough! less private parking lots, especially for those expensive cars. most of the buildings are walked up..not convenient for those with babies, handicaped people, elderlies.
