Conjuring Consciousness: Does consciousness exist? – Daniel Dennett.
Consciousness is both the most familiar thing to all of us, and one of the most mysterious. Real consciousness, in the eyes of some people isn’t something you could possibly explain. There are even scientists who think, almost by definition, consciousness defies explanation. It’s beyond human explanation. If you’ve explained anything, what you HAVEN’T explained is consciousness.
Daniel Clement Dennett III is an American philosopher, writer, and cognitive scientist whose research centers on the philosophy of mind, philosophy of science, and philosophy of biology, particularly as those fields relate to evolutionary biology and cognitive science.
He is currently the co-director of the Center for Cognitive Studies and the Austin B. Fletcher Professor of Philosophy at Tufts University. Dennett is an atheist and secularist, a member of the Secular Coalition for America advisory board, and a member of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, as well as an outspoken supporter of the Brights movement. Dennett is referred to as one of the “Four Horsemen of New Atheism”, along with Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, and the late Christopher Hitchens.
Dennett is a member of the editorial board for The Rutherford Journal.

Consciousness is the where our minds exist while we're awake. Each morning we separate from our body's instinctual knowing and enter a realm of thought. Consciousness is moving from being compelled by instinct, to a mode "free will". It is a realm of every thought that the mind can think without physical restrictions.
