Roles in the Corps: Enlisted Aircrew

Marine Corps Recruiting

Enlisted aircrews serve in the thick of the battle—perform navigational duties, operate and maintain the various communications systems, and load equipment into transport aircraft. Marine aircrew receive water rescue training and survival swimming in addition to training specific to their MOS, such as aerial gunnery, heavy-lift operations, and land and sea operations.

About the United States Marine Corps:

The Marine Corps defends the people of the United States at home and abroad. Within every Marine is the willingness to engage and determination to defeat any adversary, and it is this fighting spirit that allows us to fight and win our Nation’s battles. To those seeking to fight alongside men and women for a common cause worthy of their service, the Marine Corps offers the opportunity to pursue and earn victory for our Nation, our communities and our Corps.

The mission of the United States Marine Corps is made up of three promises: We make Marines, we win our Nation’s battles, and we develop quality citizens prepared to fight and win battles.

You don’t join the Marines—you become one, forged in the crucible of training aboard our recruit depots on Parris Island, South Carolina, and in San Diego, California, or through the dedication required of officer candidates at Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia. Beyond the physical requirements, aspiring Marines must prove they have the honor, courage, and commitment to face and defeat any obstacle.

Today, more than 180,000 enlisted Marines and 23,000 Marine officers serve in active duty or reserve forces on bases and in communities around the world, proudly carrying with them the core values of the Marine Corps.

  1. I know it’s been asked but I’m looking for more specifics. Will this transfer into a good civilian career and if so, what exactly would that be? I wanted to do this, but it didn’t seem like I would get a job after, so I’m leaning more towards Aviation Mechanic.

  2. Anybody know how I can go about making sure I get this contract once I go to MEPS? Is it sometimes unavailable to get? I really want to become a crew chief, and it seems like being enlisted aircrew is a step towards that. Also, how well does a job like air crewman transfer into the civilian world?

  3. What civilian job could this translate to? my end goal is to work in a police department. could this get me a job working with their helos???

  4. How hard is it to get into this? I plan on going into the Marine Corps after high school, and I want to do something with helicopters, while it be piloting, working on helicopters like maintenance type of work, or being a crewman. I'd rather be in the air as a pilot or crewman. I've always had a love for aviation and doing something with helicopters in the military has always been a dream of mine.
