Coronavirus Deep Learning Competition

Siraj Raval

Coronavirus is turning out to be one of the deadliest disease outbreaks of all time. The people that are fighting this disease need a solution now, not a year from now. As such, I’m hosting a 2-week $3500 Coronavirus Deep Learning Competition for anyone in this community to participate. The goal is to use deep learning to find a potential cure or treatment, then we’ll send samples of the compound to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for further analysis. This is the perfect opportunity to show the world how open-source, community-driven AI can effect positive, relevant change. This is the AI-Human collaborative “Deep Blue” moment, a moment where, given AI tools, a human or group of humans will be able to accomplish an extraordinary feat that they couldn’t otherwise. In this episode, I’ll explain the details of the competition, the details of the Coronavirus genome, which teams are currently using AI to fight it, and we’ll go through the necessary steps to generate and test candidate molecules with deep learning and PyRX (molecular docking software). Enjoy!

  1. I do teach English with your movies converting your speech to automatic translasions .😎
hu can i know the dataset of this can be obtained without interviewing COVID-19 patient?
Keep it up Siraj, you are doing what you were meant to do!

  2. Inspiring stuff, thanks.
We could get a new folding@home going to power this, lots of people would sign up

  3. Artificial intelligence is not being used for finding a cure yet I think… Google can use Quantum Supremacy to calculate and define a cure for coronavirus or many other illness.

  4. Dude the internal structure looks like spirulina chemical structure… one red one green… hmm how many victims are vegan???? Oh … none… hmmm

  5. Excellent initiative Siraj! I find that you move a bit too fast for me, though, and I had to look at all the step mentioned in the process. As a newbie I will like to mention this article with a howto for using the AutoDock suite from 2016: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4868550/. My first naive, non-expert though is whether it is necessary to use AI-techniques as the first step, when you can download huge drug databases for available and approved drugs, try out groups with similar structures with the N3 binding site (https://www.rcsb.org/structure/6lu7) and discover which groups seems to work best. Then you can generate similar drugs with GANs for the highest scoring ones, to find even better drugs. The docking process can have massive speed-ups as well, with Autodock-GPU and other initiatives being freely available. Some smart guys can probably also automate this process as well with eg. Dakota.

  6. It's this type of positive impact we need in today's crazy, paradox of a world we have.
Using technology to solve real-world problems and encouraging the actual people behind the technology to fight it together!

  7. YouTube ai will stop ad sense on this vid and recommend less to ppl
Thank you sooo much Siraj!!! Great job as usual … I like your amazing storytelling skill
