Cosmology and the Evolution of Consciousness | Brian Swimme Ph.D. | Waking Cosmos

Did the universe require the evolution of conscious life? How does our evolving picture of the universe impact human life? How much do we know about the nature of reality? Cosmologist Brian Swimme joins Adrian on the Waking Cosmos podcast to discuss these subjects and more!

  1. Thank you for rising me upward ……..one day we shall reach the quintessential spiritual element when the material egg cracks open.
The materialists have had a knee on our necks trapping our souls for too long. History is a meantime story . Ideal is a pretty word like our constitution but it hides the systemic Machiavellian one.We need the SOPHIA ONE : WISDOM AND SPIRIT which would explain the cooperation like mother and offspring and father protector ; staff and rod giver, like the conservation law teaches us. Thank you , so glad i found meta rising .

  2. I hope this touches someone -. Ive been on a philosophy/ontology kick. Very interesting thought provoking stuff.
Heres why i think its important to have discussions like the ones metaRising has..
So..mainstream science has become to plain and colorless. Science isnt just about learning what can be measured and documented in a material sense. There is and should always be a self derived purposeful goal. We have faith in science because it helps us better manage our own future as a whole, not as a separate identity.
Modern understanding of physics has made huge leaps in short periods of time….yet we still have problems with our social economics systems. What good does the discovery of the Higgs boson do when your own family members/friends commit suicide or starve or kill eachother? Im not implying that our progression through science is wrong. Im implying that we should pay attention to balance instead of thinking in terms of absolutes.
I see ppl argue their own POV to the bone from both the sides of physics and spirituality. This is why i like Bernardo Kastrup. Hes trying to form a theory that promotes humanity to regroup and move forward in a positive way.
Humility is a great tool. Personally, i always feel stronger when I admit that i do not know the true nature of existence…and i think we could all level up this way.
Whew… Thats all i got…it took a lot out of me. I do hope someone reads this cuz it really was from my poor heart. ✌ i hope someone sends some feedback cuz i barley hanging by a thread here.

  3. So glad l found this channel. In my own 'uneducated' way l have been searching for insights from observers who can articulate the connection l feel to everything around me. For the last 30 years l've felt a change in consciousness is coming. I hope to live long enough to experience a new, more enlightened age. I see the current state of our world as a struggle of the new awareness against a destructive, egocentric belief system, represented by corporate greed and military domination. I believe change will come. The force released by a collective desire for a new way of being will ultimately achieve it. You're making a valuable contribution to that Adrian.

  4. Discover and Understand the DIFFERENCE, between "LIFE (The Real Self)" and the human Primate… This Universe is just a Holographic Simulation, being played in "The Processing System of LIFE"… "LIFE (The Real Self)", uses "The Processing System of LIFE" to Store, Assemble and experience Programs, producing Universes, and other Worlds unlike any Universe…

  5. From a single cell we evolved. We became more complex as time went on. Our brain went from one full organ to having a split down the middle. Where does evolution of the concious go from there? One might say that a split personality is the next step in evolution and people are being misdiagnosed and misguided. The spirit healers of old aren't around anymore so therefore people are forced into alternatives like medications. I whole heartedly disagree with what you have established as insane, and infact fully understand it is the next step in evolution and people are being denied their rights to their freedom of personal growth.

  6. Wat a great insight on 2 great opened minded human beings..who as taken wat knowledge they received up till now in there lives..& share to others bout purpose & meaning which is the foundation of this wonderful universe..because a materialist view would say its value is why universe here..that's not enough for me & thank u both for sharing a true insight on existence.

  7. how is reducing us to stardust not reductionist? he's still saying we're just atoms, but reminding us of their source.
he's hardly the first to put this poetic spin on it either, in fact it's a cliche among science popularizers.

  8. Strong emergence can only be explained by reductionist theories if the laws of physics were such that they always had the properties of self organization built into them. Thus consciousness was an inevitable fact in the universe.

  9. As always, very insightful. Thanks so much for your work. Would love to listen to a conversation between you and Menas Kafatos someday.

  10. Good to see you have a show posted again enjoy your work I just picked up a book at the library called the origins of consciousness in the breakdown of the bicameral mind, by Julian Jaynes quite interesting, not sure if I agree exactly about the origins of consciousness he presents I still have a lot more to read though.

  11. Reductionism and disenchantment with Lifes magic goes hand in hand with materialism, consumption and using the planet like a warehouse of resources. Perhaps its all part of a great cosmic cycle where life devours itself through its minions of consumers? All to begin again

  12. This is awesome 😎 I have been trying to tell people and show them how to read the purpose of the universe for 30 years but no one gets it… my 2003 book explains the core ideas but there is so much more! It is my deepest desire that people finally be ready to understand what I have been trying to say all this time, but world views, assumptions, egos, titles etc keep getting in the way! I will not be alive for many more productive years and I need people to listen to me no matter how it scares them. My book can now be revised for 2020 because I now have 14 more modern books doing EXACTLY what I said needed to be done such as realizing that the universe is a BOOK to read, and as such is not what it represents (Don Hoffman) and I show that we need to define and systematically investigate synchronicities and Gary E. Schwartz is doing exactly what I proposed. Others are Lanza showing how the universe is set up for life, which is the entire topic of my book, and the manifestation people are letting people see our evolutionary power, also what I explain and why. Time “flows” both ways we just see the 2 in 2 different ways or hemispheres if you will. Tonini is covering my idea if instantaneous information integration, and Kastrup nails it with the all is mind angle. My book is called “The Textbook of the Universe: The Genetic Ascent to God” and I am in the process of revising it to include the newer research which has been unanimously backing up everything I said. The universe is an information structure teaching machine. Hameroff and his idea of micro tubules is trying to answer the one big “missing dark matter” of the mind as I called it originally in my 1994 paper to Brain and Cognition and which I sent to Francis Crick. I thought it might be the glial cells and said that perhaps time as we know it was created by the neurons, and the glial cells might be outside normal time. Whatever it is-it may be a fundamental property of the universe that the original unity is still here and distributed everywhere behind everything and experienced in us as consciousness. Further, we were MEANT TO LEARN and are an integral information component of the universe. I don’t know everything but I have sacrificed my life for this stuff and I deserve to be heard. My contribution is very important for all of us. This kind of thing is why free speech is important. Moreover it is why trees bloom in the darkness offering nectar to the gods of reproduction shrouded in darkness forever. Faith. All of the universe is telling us who we are and why we are one.

  13. How can we not be a part of the living universe? Even if you don’t believe in the Devine creator we are logical beings after all. If big things are made of smaller things then it stands to reason it follows the same pattern all the way up into the macro cosim, and all the way down into the micro. And it’s a fractal pattern of infinite division of finite space. A pattern of space dividing itself is the important part we are ignoring. To understand the patterns is to understand this incredible creation that has been growing in octaves. Always in balance it creates such complex configurations, repeating the behavior and composition of matter from the smallest to the largest. We focused our attention on the .00001% of this, the material and like the children that we are, we conveniently ignore the other 99.9999% of our universe
Ahhh how much there is to learn
