Does the Universe Have a Purpose? feat. Neil deGrasse Tyson

Neil deGrasse Tyson was asked by the Templeton Foundation to answer the question “Does the Universe Have a Purpose”. Then he read his answer aloud and I drew some pictures for it. http://www.templeton.org/purpose/

  1. maybe something very big made all of this on a very small scale with complimenting smaller lifespans so that by the time it wakes up, they're living in there favorite recreation on a scene they saw on an old tv show, with the complete planet population cast

  2. I think its very unfair to give us life and let us fear death, and let us question our existence. Kind of a dick move tbh.

  3. It takes an infinity knowledge to exist to make this universe infinity of things that exist. So the infinity knowledge must have the knowledge for is of reasons to make it exist for. For to be All Knowledge means to have the knowledge for cannot make this universe of accidentally made or of just because. To see this knowledge has made mankind with knowledge exist. For has made this universe with things made for can mankind to exist. Must mean mankind is of some reason why this universe exist.

  4. That's assuming that humans are the first and only sentient beings to appear since the big bang…. (somehow I think this is not the case at all)…. our tiny brains are just not equipped to understand/process reality, with all of its complexities, as it really is. This is a question that we will never be able to answer

  5. The purpose of the universe is to get on YouTube and argue with people who disagree with their beliefs in an endless debate where no one wins.

  6. Univers'es Big Plan
    1.Big Bang
2.Extend Until something became too random or smart
    3. Let Them Make The (most terrible vepon in univers) anather Big bang

  7. I feel, all this drama, humans, religions, Science… Every thing isss so welllll manipulated deliberately by some experimenters to check what these human do?? I mean look at the confusion. First they kept sending religion after religion, each contradicting the other groups of people's faiths and each having a unique purpose of universe. And made them fight each other. Then we came up with science debunking all the beliefsystems and purposes. I don't know when will they conclude their results and come down on earth to announce it.

  8. Well to assert that the universe is inefficient for creating us for a very long time is in itself, contradictory. We also dont know how long life will last in the universe (considering that we are not 100 % about the end). In this way, we cannot say that it is INEFFICIENT.

  9. Is this not the same thing as asking, does, "nature," have a purpose? So if reason concludes that nature does not have a purpose statistically, does that mean that man does not have purpose and meaning?

  10. God doesn't work on YOUR time he works on HIS TIME. Yes Christians and other religions groups believe in a higher purpose because it would be very arrogant and Pessimistic to assume all those is for nothing.

  11. The universe actually has many porpoises. They live in the Earth’s oceans.
They’re not even endangered, though their populations have been monitored.

  12. So life is meaningless, then? Time to sell all my belongings and give the proceeds to starving people in India, hike up a steep volcano, and throw myself into the lava.

  13. Just because the universe is inefficient at creating humans doesn't necessarily mean it's inefficient at creating any life in general. Life could have spawned billions of years ago but we just don't know about it.
The fact at the rule-set of the universe allows matter to become self-aware is IN ITSELF remarkable and shouldn't be ignored. I'm not saying there is a purpose of life, but it sure as hell seems interesting that existence of life is allowed to exist

  14. Millions of people die through natural disasters, diseases etc. We could have gone extinct in the past and we can go extinct in the future. We are not special or universe isn't here for us. We have consciousness and that's special thing for us but it evolved naturaly and universe doesn't care about it. There are endless probabilities out there and we are just living one of it.

  15. Damn this is so annoying. You know when you chat with an over zealous religious person about science and they just shut you off and prefer to stick their heads in the sand, will that is kinda what Mr Tyson is doing here. Some of the points about religion were based on assumptions of religion, which bugs me so much. ie 99.99% of life has gone extinct as you claim (point which I don't dispute [for my lack of knowledge to argue otherwise]) so what? does religion claim that this earth is a perfect place for all beings? no? rather the religion does not mention anything about life (all living being), its fragility and even its purpose (not talking about humans purpose to worship God). In other words we DONT know for certain the wisdom behind it, just the same as science cannot say for sure the purpose of the universe. Mr Tyson here made a conclusion based on hypothesis… in other words he BELIEVES.. so what is the difference between the religious and the scientific school of thought??? You are not helping

lynne Atwater I had another careful listen to the presentation,( a creating God is impossible )Your opening statement is a fallacy because the Hubble telescope which looks into furthermost universes thousands of light years away and we still cannot reach the frontiers where it all started or began. Meaning there in no end to eternity there is no beginning or end to it all ,nobody on earth can proclaim where do the beginnings of it all start or end …scientists can postulate that at a certain point the big bang started it all but that this can only refer to what can be see and not what can not be seen . God declares himself as having no beginning or end that is what we are discovering through the Hubble telescope we can find no beginning and no the end. What settles the question nothing evolves nothing can nothing bring about an orderly universe which we can now observe in all the galaxies and millions of universes. Since God claims to have no beginning all His handy work of complexity of creations he is revealing that He himself is the super supreme intelligence creator and designer directing all to his purpose and Glory that has no beginning or end and creates what we see is intelligent design. God was not created or evolved since he existed before all time and his empirical universes demonstrate this. . Boris Dobra

  17. That the universe has no purpose is an assumption of astronomers to avoid circular reasoning. To mistake it as a scientific result is either stupid or dishonest (or both)
