After all his experience, as one may gather from the messy impastos on the back board, the biggest surprise is just what an uninspired and humdrum artist this guy is. At this point, he should be lightyears better by now. So many giveaways: the use of pasty colors caused by amateurish overuse of white; the extremely ordinary sense of drawing and forms; the hesitancy in every brush stroke. Etc. This is really a demonstration that achieving excellence and originality in painting is not easy. This artist has clearly not reached this point, and it is quite clear that he never will. One either has it or he doesn't. Genius and ability do not suddenly appear after thousands of average paintings.
