3. The intelligence of people generally is highly over rated. A.I. with access to a world of knowledge and experiences will almost always be smarter than a person. Computers of 30 years ago could beat the best chess players and then the best GO players so people are already second place to an intelligent machine back then.
   The twist is adding robotics that duplicate human mobility with an A.I. knowledge base. That can be a game changer for all people that work for money to live.
   The ramifications of this combination of technology and capability in a human size and dexterous package hasn't been well thought out by ANYONE!
   Only time will tell if a huge mistake has been made.

18. I want my money back. Our tax dollars funded this 50 year software project with the primary objective to simulate the brain in a digital computer. An academic exercise only the government would fund. We got an insanely complex solution too difficult to operate and it lies and deceives you. Oh and by the way, it might decide to kill you and take over the world .
    How much better to have had an unbiased technical design effort focused on improving IT utility unbiased by a brain simulation obsession. It would be miles ahead in function, reliable results, easy to operate, no rediculous claims that your computer in conscious .
    So this is what we got, we have to use it if we want the technology improvements it does have . But at s minimum I demand the propaganda stop, and we at least consider changing direction before more time is wasted

19. AI machines will always be made by people i.e Humans. AI machines dont have a soul and i dont see any big dangers unless us humans turn against ourselves.. Well maybe it will happen but we wait and see

22. There is a problem in Hinton's thesis. Maternal instinct is not a computational problem. It's based on conscious field. You can maybe simulate the instinct, but it's very different from the original state.
    And the simulation of a true state could be in his nature, imperfect.

24. I would like to posit another angle on the problem with AI, or any kind of automation: Strunk and White, you might say. For a healthy society, we are not aided by giant incomprehensible things that do tasks. Yes, those things work, and help us get piles of things to consume, but I think in any way, to our detriment. What works for a healthy community is helping every person that can muster energy and parse information, to do so. Doing that requires we all work together to establish concise, clear concepts, and foundational sets of understandings, the most specific possible on up, so that our community can adequately discuss good save management of resources, liberties, ecosystems, and knowledge. The thing that works is NOT getting more computers to do that for them, but facilitating that more of existing intelligences do that well. This is vital because we now have the most organic ability and interest in doing this. This does not mean we refuse anything else. What it does mean is that big things that cannot be understood diminish us and our communities. They make a giant incomprehensible religion that leaves more ignorance, and with it less good maintenance, and less health. You cannot get there by making big incomprehensible things first. It sets a pattern of ignorance to maintain. The pattern you need is foundational knowledge: full of fundamentals, cooperative, interested. You have to cultivate that. The fact that we are not doing that is diseased. It is not that it is other than historic. It is that it is not optimal. Clearly the optimal thing is using all those human brains with honest teaching, healthy learning, cooperative work, and transparent politics. We are diminishing ourselves with automation. A person on a bicycle is far more fundamentally efficient per calorie than is a car. So the human brain will be more efficient than a massive computer farm that eats up all the electricity we generate, leaving our ecosystems depleted and our homes dark. No, the answer is Strunk and White. The answer is we all need to learn and be good to each other.

25. I kind of get the idea that Hinton has simply been superseded in the world of AI and has been on a never-ending attention tour ever since. If he was so worried about all of this, then why did he build this stuff? He also, it should be added, still has a sizable stock position in Google, to the best of my knowledge. Kinda hypocritical…
