Homeschool Update: End of Week 3: Math, Language Arts & History Adjustments

Hear me talk about how we are doing at the end of week 3. We have had to make some adjustments in math, language arts and history, but we are still learning, loving homeschool and enjoying learning!

  1. Jen, we are loving the rest of the G&B science units as well! They are super easy to use and lots of fun! We loved Space Science and will be using Kingdoms and Classifications next. Good to hear about MUS- it’s working well for one of my kids also.

  2. We switched from cle math to ace math this year for the same reason. The spiral approach just was not working anymore. We are doing cle bible too, but I stopped using it at third grade because it seemed too much, now we finished it up in sixth grade and moved on to fourth grade level. My child likes it again now, so if you save it, it might work!

  3. Hopefully BJU works! If not, look at Saxon. For my math loving kids that like to see it and just do it, they thrived on Saxon. Even one of my non math lovers did well with Saxon. (23rd year of HS!)

  4. Hope BJU works for you all. I have not used BJU for math. I have used it for science, history, and English. Just throwing another name out there just in case it doesn’t work…Horizon Math. I feel like that program is a little advanced and it is colorful as well.

  5. For math, have you looked at Math Mammoth? It's also mastery. There are a lot of free worksheets on the website to try and see if it fits before buying.

  6. That’s great that you are going to give BJU Math a try. My kids are loving it. The mastery approach makes more sense to them. I found BJU to be an easy transition after using Abeka and Horizons Math. I hope it works out for your son. Best wishes. 🙂

  7. Question about Abeka Math. I know you switched your youngest from that and I actually just switched my middle to Abeka 2 for similar reasons (she just wasn't understanding math from her previous program). Abeka is a great fit for her! Do I need the homeschool teachers guide? What about for abeka math 3? Or would you recommend just the answer key for level 3 and up? Thanks!

  8. You might like to try Math Mammoth. In the past, we've tried Math U See, Math Lessons For a Living Education, and Singapore Math, but for us Math Mammoth has been the perfect combination of Spiral and Mastery.

  9. That's wild.. for the first time ever.. I am seriously looking at BJU Math, and quite possibly for us.. the BJU DLO Math… LOVE your updates.. Such a blessing!!! TY so much for taking the time to share.. LOVING how you have a personal assistant there!!!! Too sweet! ^_^ <3
