How 1 Man’s Brain Injury Turned Him Into A Math Savant | Megyn Kelly TODAY

TODAY

Jason Padgett grew up struggling in school — until one night in 2002 when he was attacked in a bar and everything changed. Padgett said after the incident, he was using areas of the brain he didn’t previously have access to; he experienced choppy vision, was drawing intricate shapes and was seeing complex mathematical objects everywhere. Dr. Darold Treffert, a world renowned expert on savants, later diagnosed Padgett with acquired savant syndrome, which explained Padgett’s new skills. Padgett joins Megyn Kelly TODAY to share his story.

  1. This man just see the linear structure of things, math is a language for measuring things and combine things in a diferrent way. Like come on life doesnt function with "math". Math measures, not fundament the causes of things.

  2. The gift is that most humans don’t have to think about these things while they perform them. It’s sad to realize that his brain is glitching in a sense forcing him to calculate the most mundane things in this world. Both a blessing and a curse.

  3. He's just selling his book… That's what all this is about… You would think if someone woke up one day gifted in Mathematics they would persue a field that can change the world for everyone. If not, why should I know about this person's gift?

  4. It literally makes me sick when people like megan pretend being dumb is cute or funny. Its not cute. Its not funny. Its pathetic.

  5. Plot twist, his future self went back in time to give himself savant syndrome.
Past Jason: I'm not a genius
Future Jason: I'm about to start this man's whole career

  6. This story, has basically "story" written all over it. Most everything about it seems like something they concocted to generate views. Everything about it seems designed to pull an audience based on cliche like ideas. Gets injured, suddenly a genius.. Goes from jock to einstein in one blow. It could be possible that a blow could rearrange something to open up a past potential ability, but that in itself is so near to impossible. Add on the rest of the unlikely parts to the story and anyone smart can tell it's suspect. Any effort to research this person leads only very few web pages and the ones that exist are all about booking a showing, tickets and so on. There would normally be multiple web pages, forums, research teams, past articles… but with this guy, no. I can't say it's not true, but I can say that this has a lot questionable things… OR to be real, but incredibly stretched.

  7. I’m opening up my own business

For the low price of $100 you can come into my office and I’ll hit you right in the back of the head with a baseball bat as hard as I can until you see the light

    No refunds…
