Is Consciousness Primary to Reality? (Documentary)

metaRising

Is consciousness a fundamental aspect of reality? This documentary follows and the recent return of “panpsychism” as a respectable theory in philosophy and science. Part of the Waking Cosmos series.

  1. Consciousness "of" things is a subset of Consciousness "In-Itself",; such that a rock is not conscious of the sky (that we know of). But a rock is equally the "Ground of Being" as is a Buddha. To tap into that Pure Consciousness, no problem. Access "Mahamritunjaya mantra – Sacred Sounds Choir and listen to it for 5 min per day for at least two week. The mantra is from the Rig Veda.

  2. If the scope of a philosopher were limited to our universe, panpsychism might be considered a viable philosophical concept. Panpsychism grants that matter exists separate from an observer’s mind and is itself endowed with mind. The philosopher could argue that subatomic particles appeared at the beginning of the universe, and that these had the property of mind. Constructs that evolved from this initial condition could then be seen as matter having consciousness.

To the idealist philosopher, the subatomic particles that appeared at the beginning of the universe are not matter endowed with consciousness but are entirely configurations of consciousness. These configurations would form because the energy of cosmic consciousness has the property of vibration. Some elements resonate, some don’t and they configure themselves accordingly. They are interpreted by the consciousness of individuals as external physicality. Rather than having consciousness, the particles are consciousness.

Panpsychism gives us our universe where matter has consciousness, but the ontology of idealism takes us to a larger cosmos where all is consciousness. So which one chooses would depend on context.

  3. Partner, I have been thinking about consciousness since I was fifteen and over the course of the years I "got it"; I recognized the fundamental strangeness of consciousness and its inability to be explained by the reigning doctrines of materialist scientism. Countless times I have tried breathlessly to explain it to people and I am always amazed to find that so few see the magic. Thank you for your channel.

  4. I believe that once you detach from the mind and body you are then only awareness. At that point you are able to design your awareness and this awareness will now materialize into your external reality….

  5. if there was nothing conscious in the universe, would the universe exist then, and if so how would you know, and what would it matter, if there was a universe with no life, therefore i think consciousness gives purpose to reality, because without consciousness reality would exist without anyone knowing about it, and it wouldn't matter if it existed without anyone being aware of it

  6. Become Conscious as Love to see no longer as sides of thought as an "E" or a "C" and see as an "I" as conscious Love becomes consciousness so that each conscious spirit has an extra "S" to take the conscious-s love back to god as the plural of conscious here is consciousness at tree of life.

  7. I have always considered a thought experiment as follows. Imagine that the universe was born with the big bang, and ultimately marched on to its heat death and never in its entire history were the conditions right enough to create sentient creatures like ourselves who are capable of observation/self reflection. Heck, even saying that observation is only limited to sentient creatures is wrong as we know that the physics of the universe respects the presence of particles in relation with each other. So in a sense, even the tiny electron is "observing" in its vicinity, the electromagnetic disturbance caused by another electron. But anyway, back to our experiment, we are never born to observe a universe that goes from the big bang to its heat death. EVER.

Now, if you cannot observe this situation, except by imagination, does it even exist? Is it even real? Does it even matter? If I made a claim today that I have a sports car, people will demand to me that I show them my sports car to prove to them that I indeed have what I claim. But applying this logic to the thought experiment I just laid, doesn't make sense. How can someone really ask me to show a proof of a universe in which no observation ever took place? I mean no observation, not even fundamental observation like those of the electrons demonstrated earlier.

By our human experience of the universe thus, we are led to reject such a possibility of universes existing without at least some kind of primitve observation. The universe exists is fact. Consciousness of the universes exists is fact. And thus, one may conclude that consciousness is a very integral part of the universe coming into existence, because remember our earlier reasoning, you cannot prove a universe CAN exist WITHOUT observation of any kind existing first.

In a more physical term, if there is nothing to observe, who determines what events took place in the universe? Did the big bang even happen or did the heat death even happen if there was no observation for it? How could you tell? There's nothing to distinguish the big bang from the heath death 🙂

  8. Physics studies the physical. Maybe that’s why things continue to be a mystery. We are spiritual/energy beings operating organic machinery…aka…the body. Makes sense to me!

  9. I found this well said. I believe we existed as incorporeal beings that projected ourselves, consciousness, into matter. Creating a protective shell, for which we could experience tactile and emotional sensation. In doing this, we trapped ourselves, in repeated lifetimes we increasingly forgot our true form. Now don't get me wrong, I love Life, Vices etc. So Life is great to experience and explore. In order to become soul beings again we must develop our consciousness to create our spirit to transfer our consciousness into and continue existence on another level another dimension. 🤔 In effect we are ourselves holograms of God waiting to ne reassimilated, not losing our dinstinct self. Transcending can only be done through moderation and balance in all things.

  10. I don't think it's fundamental. In fact I don't even belive in consciousness. We take in information from our senses, not different from what a single celled organism does, and that give us the illusion of consciousness.

  11. Unfortunately, I think we're dancing around the real answer which is that we're living in a simulation. The closer and closer we get to observing the true substrate of our existence, the weirder it gets. Quantum mechanics is bizarre and the idea that observer and observation are entangled suggests to me that we are not supposed to be observing certain things, so that when we try to observe them, they are changed so we see something other than what's really there. It looks like consciousness is the stuff of reality because the awareness of every single agent is constantly being sampled, monitored, and limited by the simulation so we are never exactly sure what our true substrate is.

  12. In India all the Vedas and Upanishads talks about the level of consciousness, as how it is working as a fundamental source of existence and how it is evolving, consciousness is defined as Aatma (Self) that is the part of Bramh (Universal consciousness) and body and mind is just a manifestation of it.

  13. The mind putting itself at the center of being… Imagine that 😂 The tragedy of man is how comically simple its "unsights" are.
