GPT-3 is the latest iteration of the Ai coder killer … are we all doomed as developers? Short answer is yes. But dudes, we all have expiration dates on our heads. Well, unless the Ai overlords help us to digitize ourselves.
… Help us Ai!!!

#GPT-3 #developerjobs #coding #ai
Very interesting to have your perspective going back to 90s. Sounds like AI might take over some other jobs first.
Upload all of your videos into Open AI, preset them, and in 5 minutes GPT-3 will generate 1 million new interesting videos from Steff. – with Steff's style, voice and maybe even simular face. And one of its videos, of course, will be that AI will never substitute developers.
Omg Stef you are so fast. An hour before I was just thinking about to write you about GPT-3. And what do I see here. 😀
By the way the self driving thing is pretty far already. "In the 2nd quarter, we registered one accident for every 4.53 million miles driven in which drivers had Autopilot engaged. For those driving without Autopilot but with our active safety features, we registered one accident for every 2.27 million miles driven. For those driving without Autopilot and without our active safety features, we registered one accident for every 1.56 million miles driven. By comparison, NHTSA’s most recent data shows that in the United States there is an automobile crash every 479,000 miles." Of course it is still not ready to drive safe in cities. But in a few years that could become an reality I believe.
I am senior developer and I had an interview asking how many algorithms I know. I didn't know what to answer because I really don't care about algorithms. Because the reality is that when you are facing a situation where you have to choose an algorithm, you'll choose an implementation that all ready exist with already known performances. Now I realize the person asking the question know nothing about programming.
Great points Stef! I totally agree. The important thing to note is that producing code/software is just one piece of the software development equation. The reasoning, weighing pros and cons of potential solutions and other analytical skills is what makes a software developer valuable.
If artificial intelligence created a character based on Al Pacino and Andy Garcia…..
100 percent disagree… This is only GPT3, You're vastly underestimating how fast we're going to get to self generating autonomous models. Decade at the outside.
I have an idea. You say "build a CMS!" The software then proceeds to automatically download and install WordPress or Drupal.
Coders: learn to code today or you are gonna be jobless in 10 years…
GPT-3/Ai: hold my beer all ya'll finna be jobless…
So, "Nothing to worry about here, move along!". Obviously he's been compromised by Skynet. Stef, blink twice if you are under duress!
Eventually we would only need to have a voice interview with AI as to what type of program we need. It would be able to code it in the most efficient way possible in the most basic form of machine language in 1's and 0's. Or we could tell it to write its source in a language of our choosing. Imagine creating an open world game with all assets being procedural, the size of <200MB or so.
Good video. The problem is that AI will not be used like a assistants, because the company require less Developer, lees cost for 1 service with AI for coding. Essentially, less jobs.
The other problems is that if you like only programming and you have social skills problems, and others, the AI will have more easy for replace you
I for one , salute our new AI overlords. (Just sayin') 😉
korek.. ..
.. .. thank you for your video ..
.. .. usually lower level algorithms are being used internally by higher level algorithms (business algorithm), and lower level algorithms are use in school to practice the students ..
(In old man voice) In my day of the 90’s I had to program thousands of lines of code in the snow on the way to school while swatting actual bugs 😏
Since the AI boom people tend to underestimate the human brain way too much. Humans are too close to their subjective experience so they don't realize how much computation they are doing every second. Every second you are building a detailed representation of the world through 5 channels that merge into one, on top of that you build a representation of yourself (ego) which allows you to understand yourself and others and the relationship you have to the environment. When you look into these systems and what they can do (and more importantly what they CANT do) with the data they are provided you realize how dumb these things actually are. A human can infer a pattern with just 3 examples presented. Show me a model that can do ANYTHING with 3 examples and then we have a case.
It will happen but the amount of work that still needs to be done is enormous. To train these models you need supercomputers running for hours consuming TONS of energy, while the brain uses like 20 watts a second.
Computers right now are just blazing fast idiots.
For now….
Of course Stephan will say it's no problem – He is trying to sell you into a career that will probably not exist in 5-10 years.
Saying this is assistive so it won't be detrimental reminds me of that meme where the clown is putting layers of make-up. Assistive like WordPress/Webflow/page builders are? So assistive that you don't need to be able to code or be a whiz to build a great looking site. That's where the jobs disappear
I think what you're picturing of an 'AI will just help developers with their tasks so they can focus on bigger things" is dangerous one.
1. The moment companies see that AI can perform quicker and chapter than human dev: EXPECT jobs getting eliminated and DONT EXPECT so many jobs emerging
2. Big corporations like Microsoft investing billions in GPT-3 is not serious and means: a lot of power going to be concentrated in hands of very few people (many dangers here, not just to the job market)
3. Companies may do just fine with leaving the "Big Picture" thinking to business and product owners.
4. Tech growth is exponential. no ones know what the job market would look like in 10 years from now
AI will generate code, coding becomes cheaper, Software get's even more complex. The demand will shift to designers and architects.
Elon musk is creating an ibm watson. A jack of all trades that can be used world wild by all business. Programmers are dead as this thing learns more and more couple by machine learning you are looking at a programming powerhouse this could be used to cut jobs.. BUSINESS WILL NEED LESS PROGRAMMERS. PROGRAMMERS YOU GOT LESS THAN 5 YEARS
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👌
Is that the road less traveled?
