When Peterson talks about the “post moderns” he is using “post modern” as a obfuscating epithet for the post structuralists. The post structuralists were most of all responsible for introducing a little bit of flexibility, indeterminacy and fun into the structuralist paradigm. Whether he knows it or not Peterson is basically peddling a very derivative vulgarized form of structuralism, so the fact that the post-structuralists were able to soberly go about fissuring, folding and and exploding the iron clad, ahistorical, authoritarian logic of actual structuralism from the inside it to the point where "determinedness" and anything is possible weren't necessarily a mutually exclusive binary, must trigger his “order or death” sensibility. As a consequence his genealogy of evil jumps over structuralism from Stalin and Sartre to postmodernism bashing. It's not that postmodernists didn't support value hierarchies and discipline, rigorously critique marxism, rehabilitate the brilliant nazi tarnished “right” thinkers Heidegger and Nietzsche, reject zero sum power games and identity politics, and provide rich models for a meaningful, ethical relationships and existences…they just didn't do it in a way that fortified the “conscientious” standards of his bleak, joyless worldview.
