  1. Steven Pinker's curmudgeonly rightoid liberal apologetics and cherry-picked data are aimed at impeding aggressive reform. His book espouses an underlying cynicism masked as "Optimism": according to Pinker, people who call themselves "progressives" "actually hate progress" because activists who push for aggressive reform in the West must be doing so because they're not thankful enough for a high GDP and the perks of neoliberal hegemony. This book is a lullaby to help certain people feel better about the state of society. I imagine there could be blood and fire in the streets outside Pinker's window, and he would put on noise-cancelling headphones and draw the curtains while he writes his next book: *Relax! Everything's Great Because Reason and Science*. There is a 0% chance that history will look back kindly on his reactionary social commentary.
