Owen Clarke
After two failed attempts to capture an image this week, join me as I try to make it third time lucky out on the coast for a foggy sunrise shoot.
Heading to a location I know well, I see just how much the weather can completely alter the sense of mood I capture in my images.
I talk about using negative space within your composition to help portray a sense of isolation, and I also talk about one of the most important skills any landscape photographer needs to be successful.

What a beautiful session you had out there on the stone shingle shore by the seaside.
The BALANCE and POISE of your compositions is what brings it home for me!
I love that you can share the methodology and headspace being the photo.
Well played Sir!
Im 3 years late, but nevertheless, I really enjoyed this content. Ironically, I found u as a watercolorist. When I say that I find photography videos inspiring, let me shout out to my fellow artists: Do NOT copy someone elseโs work. Lol Ok, I feel better lol.
Inspiration as inspiring one to work, to create. Not to steal. Lol
Anyway, what I wanted to say is, its my opinion that black & white minimalist photography & monochromatic watercolor painting has a lot in common. Different medium with different tools, of course, but the same voyage, the same exploration.
Thank u for the content. I hope this finds u well & still searching. The best to u & urs. โ๐ป
beautiful pictures, but i would love to see them in color as well. The light was so beautifulโค๏ธ
Shingle Street, very good location
Beautiful
As you say – ' Brilliant!!' ๐๐๐
Crazy good seaside capture. I really enjoy your creativity and compositions bt the water! Great work, glad to see you enjoying the process, not worrying about filming everything for the audience! Lol
Really lovely content and nice to just listen to your voice and looking at the images, I really agreed on your idea about just to enjoy yourself while might rewarded with some pictures! Looking forward for more and letโs celebrate when you reach 1M! I will find you on instagram
What was the lens?
Wise beyond your years Owen. Have only recently found your work. Loving the simplicity of what you portray whilst having the feeling of the sheer work involved in making these videos. Such a joy to truly join you on your journeys, the good and the troubles. You have inspired me to re-think I how I conduct my landscape photography, of which I have already noticed an improvement. Thank you for having the courage to put yourself out there. Good job!
Inspirational ! thank you
Wonderful first image – just enough detail in the foreground, love the swoop – so well done! The other ones are also nice, but that first one really stood out. Love the explanations, thanks for sharing your expertise and artistry.
Hi Owen what beach was you at on this vlog
Those photos are absolutely beautiful, just beautiful. Well done
๐๐ love this kind of photography
Inspiring. Class.
The negative space is very powerful with all itโs emptiness.
Thank you for sharing.
Just checked out your website and you have some great pictures.
I know that location also but never actually took any shots there – never had my camera with me!
Amazing images, and a great video. Subscribed to your channel!
Nice video and some lovely shots Owen๐๐
Top stuff mate ….
Lovely video Owen, and some beautiful images. They have a really appealing minimalist style about them, great work! It's great to hear you talk about the struggles of success in landscape photography as well, it's something we all go through but sometimes it's easy to think that other photographers aren't having the same issues as only the success stories get published. It's encouraging to know it's not just me! Sam.
Some great vlogs youโre putting out here Owen. Iโm very much at beginner level for landscape photography (bought my camera last week) and thanks to people like yourself, Iโm finding YouTube a great source for learning. Keep up the great work and I look forward to your future vlogs as well as catching up on your archive.
Nice video chap….love the minimalism!
Hello Owen, Unsure how long you have been doing these vlogs/videos but I am very glad to subscribe. Is there anywhere I can learn more about you and your background. For example are you a trained professional or enthusiast. Anyway, I shall keep a look out for next Sunday. And also thank you, for sharing, I just love watching…
Love your honesty Owen, yes I wish I got great shots every time I went out too! It's not just me ๐ thanks for sharing, great photos, so simple and interesting ๐
Only been there once, and will be back again. It's minimal enough but the mist really emphasises minimal. Cheers.
Lovely images Owen. I find the use of negative space very challenging – an internal fight about whether it needs more or not. Interesting stuff.
I think we have different interpretations of the word "failure". To me failure is where there is no gain at all, no lessons learnt, no growth as a photographer or no understanding where you want to go from here. Even if you know what you wonโt do in the future then itโs a success. I think it was brilliant you left the cottage (or whatever the building is) off your first image, every time I see that building I automatically think Lee Acaster. I know he wasnโt the first, nor definitely the last, but he is the most famous. You got some great images there, very well done indeed and subscribed.
Excellent ! What a great location.
A pleasure to watch, a superb series of shots. Watch on 42inch telle and they looked wonderful! Paused and had a good look. Quality Owen ๐๐ my eyes say thank you
Some great images Owen! well worth going for multiple trips in the week to get these shots. I particularly like the last image, its a great use of composition and the negative space in the foreground. Keep up the good work!
Sorry Owen that I respond so late, but your video and photos are beautiful and peace giving, what you say about the failure of taking pictures, I also have it also. do so, I keep following you and give greetings to your girlfriend and of course to Rudy.
Stunning images, very inspiring, Owen. Love how u use the negative space. ๐
Some great images there Owen and you used the negative space extremely well.
I was shooting at Hunstanton beach yesterday and that beach is the complete opposite. Once the tide goes out the beach is very chaotic and challenging to photograph.
Maybe one to visit in November?
Have a good week mate.
I think these are the best images you have produced so far. Stunning!
Good lessons learned my friend ๐ Brilliant!
