Leonard Susskind: Quantum Mechanics, String Theory and Black Holes | Artificial Intelligence Podcast

Lex Fridman

Leonard Susskind is a professor of theoretical physics at Stanford University, and founding director of the Stanford Institute for Theoretical Physics. He is widely regarded as one of the fathers of string theory and in general as one of the greatest physicists of our time both as a researcher and an educator. This conversation is part of the Artificial Intelligence podcast.

  2. quantum: black hole: string theory: intuition: are all same..!why do you keep repeating the same! can you realize you are unaware of your question ( knowledge) just parroting without have first hand of your question…!

in quantum there is no more question nor answer…! both of you party are just repeating ; modifying, but have no first have experience…! if you can explain in to 6 year child you dont know what you speaking off ( Einstein) ….!

The first principle is that you must not fool yourself and you are the easiest person to fool.( Richard Feynman) ..!

if it is L. Susskind blood he will show it with finger flick…!..he keep missing the center he talk round it just round round dog chase his tale…!
understanding is Art…but not every one is an Artist to show it …

  3. Leonard Susskind it doesn't mean he can not other can not…! how does he know..of other when he dont know even others or even himself…! he is contradicting him self without been aware of it ..even if he get right,,,he is not aware of it..!
he is only speaking out of his own head how it look to him…not what actuality Is…he presume knowledge of posses it true in future..300 years from now ( for example )

  4. thinking or feeling are same just different level of same ladder…the Brain dont think..its just an organ like liver , heart ..etc..!
you speak or question looking at black hole….! did you ever wounder may be a black whole looking at you …the opposite is always true…!

  5. In the electric universe community the tendency is to eschew non-intuitive conceptions because of the obvious lack of a cohesive theoretical narrative in cosmology at large.

  6. Interesting, if you can build a quantum computer that can simulate a gravity field, are you creating gravity? and possibly able to manipulate said gravity?

  7. Mr. Susskind reminds me of that super-smart grandfather who seems like everyone else until you learne he worked for the CIA, FBI and SS all at once. He breaks down extremely complicated things very slowly, methodically so the rest of us ‘TARDS can step into the field and maybe even open our eyes. Great talk. Great.

  8. * gravity: The evolution of high order of magnitude wave functions which do not collapse (they allow alternative subfunctions within them).

    * dark matter: The simplification of high order of magnitude wave functions. The cancellation of some of the probabilistic variation of the subfunctions within an overall wave function. The more specific a wave function becomes (when it's less probabilistic allowing less alternative states to its subfunctions), the heavier it gets. Black holes are heavier than what they should be.

    * dark energy: Quantum decoherence of the subfunctions of the overall spatiotemporal wave function (of the universe). Partial disentanglement of the causal connection among the subfunctions which comprise/constitute the wave function of the overall spacetime. A big bang is the result of maximum causal disentanglement of the subfunctions of the overall spatiotemporal wave function.

The universe by definition is flat. It's not secondarily caused to be flat. It firstly is flat as a given, and as it (being a wave function) evolves, it trades off its ever changing ratio of constituents (baryonic matter, dark matter, dark energy, etc) in order to maintain its flatness. Actually it doesn't try to stay flat; its constituents try to adapt to that permanent given.

  9. IF I COULD THINK LIKE AN ELECTRON I WOULD CIRCLE THE WORLD AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT AND MISS TO SEE THE BEAUTY OF IT. BUT IF I THINK LIKE MYSELF I MOVE SLOWLY AND ENJOY THE BEAUTY. THAT GIVES ME TIME TO WONDER WHY I DON'T UNDERSTAND PEOPLE LIKE SUSKIND. WHILE OTHERS WORK HARD AND GET PAID LITTLE FOR REMOVING GARBAGE, THEY GET PAID GREAT FOR PRODUCING GARBAGE.

  10. 51:35 I think Leonard Susskind confused the question about the first image of the black hole from the Event Horizon Telescope with the LIGO detection of gravitational waves of two black holes colliding.

  11. I find it incredible that we now have access to these kinds of discussions, with these kinds of great thinkers, just through watching videos on YouTube. Thanks for posting this, I really enjoyed it.

  12. This video and the more recent Keller one have been real mind expanders, in fact I'd really enjoy seeing Keller and Susskind talking about their shared interests, in particular the question of if quantum computers are able to offer specific advantages in a hybrid classical-quantum system where branch prediction and out of order instruction execution may be accelerated without the usual exponential price to be paid for any linear increment in computational speed.

  13. Like Joe Rogan but with consistently interesting guests. Thank you for the podcasts, keep up the good work. Also, That mark on the wall has got to go lol

  14. it will be an amazing mind trip if they unify the quantum with what we see.. from the quantum sprung a macro to discover and understand itself… from the moment the singularity expanded it could not have gone any other way .. we were all destined to be here, here it all is and here we all are in it is my proof

  15. Feeling it vs thinking; battle nature; won't do the hard work to learn mathematics (let others do it) 40 years of string theory and any experiments? Well, he has tenure. And I guess he helped destroy US colleges/university system. He does seem to love brainstorming. Fine imagination about what quantum computers might be … writing sci-fi would probably be more productive.
Oh, maybe that is what he has been doing the last 40 years. Great BS.
